question about kennels/ dog sitters

i need to go away for a night soon. my pup will be nearly 12 weeks old then ,give or take a few days. i dont think i can get any friends/family that are willing to look after her as she cries alot in the night and shes not yet potty trained. i was thinking of kennels, would they take her, what would they ask for? i dont think she'd be ready for her 2nd vaccination until a few days after.
do u think the vet would give her 2nd vac a few days earlier than 12 weeks old?

otherwise i think im buggered =(

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

I dont think any good kennels/sitters take on dogs that aren't vaccs plus i'm sure going into kennels would be a traumatic experience in such a young aged pup i personally wouldnt even think about doing it as i didnt leave my pups with anyone other than family until 2 weeks ago and Brodie is 1yr old and holly 10 months!!!

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

Perhaps you could look at someone coming to stay at your house for the day and night. I would suggest you start by visiting all the vets in your area and ask for details of local pet sitters.

Or spend some time doing google searches for people in your area. I think you'll be suprised at how many people offer this type of service.

Try these websites too... Petpals - Pet sitting, dog walking, dog sitting, dog boarding, pet boarding, cat sitting and pet taxi - The alternative to boarding kennels and catteries and National Association of Registered Petsitters

Good luck, I'm sure you'll find the right person and you can relax knowing that your pup is well looked after x

I really think a pet sitter is the way to go, if a kennel would take her, I dread to think what kind of establishment it would be

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

I would get a dog sitter or maybe a neighbour could come in and feed here take her out etc. No good kennel is going to take an unvaccinated puppy.

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

As said already a good kennels will not take dogs that have not been vaccinated. Do not let your vet vaccinate her early as this will mean she may be not be covered. our Yorkie had been vaccinated only one day too early by a stand in vet for the breeder and our vet and the vaccine company said she would not be covered, and i had to have it done again.

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

Have you thought about having a word with the breeder whom you acquired the pup from.

I have in the past had the odd pup back for a small donation/fee whilst the new owners went away on hols.

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

Do you not have family/friends that could stop at yours? We have an 11 week old pup and had to go away for a night as we were at a wedding so my parents stopped at mine for the night to dog sit-I didnt want him going anywhere and getting confused or destroying anyone elses house! hehe

Re: question about kennels/ dog sitters

As well as the usual vacs, the pup would also need a kennel cough vac

I'd be surprised if any reputable kennel would take your pup without all its innocs being up to date

Im sorta lucky...himself has a great mate that runs kennels so i will have somewhere i know really well, to board mine for times away in the future. Having said that we're planning our vacations around our pup this year although i will book him in for a day and 1 sleepover as he gets a little older, to see how he copes

Good luck.... i hope you manage to sort something out
