Anyone got a working Cocker?...

Asking because we have just been to see one, we were looking for another dog, and this one is advertised to good home, she's lovely, 2 yrs old but totally!!! mad...dunno whether she will fit in with my two oldies, so was wondering if anyone has one? to find out a bit more before committing to having her, dont want to take her on then find we have to return her.
Pam.

Re: Anyone got a working Cocker?...

me, I have one she is fab but yes totally mad, but great fun. Don't expect a sedate dog tho so if u have 2 older dogs they may be a bit bamboozled. Mine is only 10 months old so even more duracell bunny like, maybe by 2 years old she may calm down a bit
I have heard that comparing a working cocker to a show type is a bit like comparing a ferrari to a ford, but never having owned a show type I couldn't say. I know that daisy is fiercely intelligent, but can also be a complete goof, and will take as much exercise as we can give - she has 2 walks (runs) a day and still seems to have bundles of energy. Fab with the kids. We weren't going to work her at all but have realized she needs more stimulation so are now looking at gundog training. Also considered flyball. She has been really easy to train (which I understand is a breed trait) but think some sort of extra activity is a must as they need so much stimulation, so you would need to be prepared for this. They are also very sociable (again this is why we are now looking at getting a second one) but guess this wouldn't be a problem if you already have other dogs.
Fab little dogs and great pets but def have to be prepared to keep them well exercised and stimulated. Need lots of space for offlead runs too.
Hope this helps. Pm me if I can help with any other questions

Re: Anyone got a working Cocker?...

I have 3 working cockers that work in field trials and are shot over.
They do make lovley pets and we do sell some of our pups for pets. They aren't 'mad' they just love to hunt, love to flush out game etc. Although you will find my three when up on your lap or having a cuddle are like mushy goo. in a good way. haha. They love to be cuddled. But do need ALOT of stimulation and exercise if you aren't going to work her.
Good luck
