Re: Volunteering for animal charities...

I done a few weeks of work for the pdsa charity shop, with those you can just go in and ask that you'd like to volunteer and if they have any spots available. It's good work and helps when in need of a job.

Via shelters, I would phone them up or go visit, I'm sure they can always do with dog walkers I know ours do, I just can't get out there.

Do a google search and have a look in your area for local kennels. Have a look on there web site and they should have a phone number or an email.

Re: Volunteering for animal charities...

I used to work for Lab rescue, that was rewarding, used to take dogs for neutering and do home visits, depends on how much time you have etc, dog walking for rescue sounds a good idea, or working in charity shop?... I dont do it now cos I work but I sponsor a dog at Dogs Trust, she's in Ireland.
Pam.

Re: Volunteering for animal charities...

Hey there,

Its great volunteering, really rewaeding and you get to play with dogs, brilliant!!!

I just searched the internet for RSPCA and dog rescue centres around where I lived and then rang/emailed them!! I also emailed a doggy day care company and I volunteer for them as well, theyre not rescue dogs, but you still get to help out and look after them!

Hope you find somewhere soon!!!

Good luck!!

Re: Volunteering for animal charities...

Well done guys, any little things do help. You'll be surprised what an hour of your time means to rescues! Another good one is you are member of freecycle either just keep your eyes open for stuff that a rescue will find useful, ie : dog crates, towels, duvets, blankets etc OR (this is naughty sort of) anything that could be sold on to create funds for the rescue. I often pick up things that we keep to use for a auction or raffle. Just picking stuff up and delivering it will be gratefully recieved I'm sure.

Worth ringing your local rescue and asking what items them find useful.

Enjoy it...and do remember you can't bring them all home but your time will have made their day so much brighter so try to not get upset at the thought of leaving them in kennels.
