What type of dog to get?

I want to get a small dog, and right now Im stuck between a pomeranian or a chihuahua.

I would be happy with either, but Im just wondering if there is anything I should know about either of them. Which is easier to take care of? do both of them need constant attention?

Im thinking chihuahua since poms shed alot... but my friend said they get sick easier

Hi if you are after a pomeranian speak to pommum you can search for her on here. I think she breeds them as well. I spoke to her when i thought of buying a pom but we all decided on a toy poodle.

Re: What type of dog to get?

there is also a chihuahua breeder on here. though for the life of me i cant remember her name... sorry!

I have had chihuahuas since I was 3 years old I'm 28 now lol. My folks still have 2, and I would have one now if I could afford the massive purchase price! Smooth or logcoated they do shed all year round, and do have a moult as the seasons change when its slightly more noticable. I'm not sure I agree with the premise that chihuahuas get sicker easier, My parents chi's are 13 & 14. They lost another 13yr old in march and the dogs previously to that have ranged from 13 - 17 when they have passed away.

One thing that will be different is the level of grooming required from smooth coat chi the least to a pom the most, with the longcoat falling in between.

They are very different breeds (well i think so), and neither should every be used as fashion accessories or handbad pups. They are BIG dogs with BIG personalities in tiny bodies. They require good training and discipline, good socialisation and firm boundaries. Provide that and you will have a happy well rounded dog

Have you looked into the papalion there very nice small dogs are are usually very socal. They are also known as the butterfly dog because of there ears and the feathering from them. Ive meant a few and they have been very sweet.

Re: What type of dog to get?

If you want any info on either the poms or chi's I have both so I will help if I can.
Smooth coat chi's moult constantly I know ours does. The male poms only change their adult coats with weathe rseasons were are an un spayed bitch will drop all of her under coat every time she has a season.

The pom isnt as difficult to groom as people think mine are lucky if they get groomed once a week unless they have a show. as long as you keep behind the ears and the knicker s groomed as this coat is softer than the rest and is more likely to knot.

You are more than welcome to PM me if you want eny more info.

take care

Sarah
