Re: Clicker Training ?

Yep! Swear by it. Like a magic wand!

Would recommend to anyone and everyone, but make sure you get the conditioning right for maximum effect

Re: Clicker Training ?

I have used clickers in the past, but now I just use a marker word which is 'yes'. No particular reason, mainly because my dogs respond well to voice commands and it is one less thing to carry.

It is the same principle as clicker training in that you use a word to mark desirable behaviour and to tell the dog a reward is coming.

I love using clickers/markers and highly recommend it, marking behaviour is a great technique and can make training so much easier as it's such a clear way to communicate with your dog

Re: Clicker Training ?

Buster is clicker trained, he loves it and it keeps his attention much better than he did before. Its great way to tire him out as it can be used to "shape" behaviour... so he has to think about what it is i want from him...this is how i trained spin.

look left - click
step left - click
start to turn click and build it up til he is doing the whole thing!

I also used it to get him to close the door, turn a touch lamp on etc. All i have to do is sit there and he does all the leg work 15mins and he is exhausted haha. He has alot of energy, I found it a great way to channel his extra energy

Re: Clicker Training ?

My Westie Lily can be very high energy for most of the time, run for miles and ready to go again, so started clicker training, it really channels her energy and she LOVES it! i just have to pick up the clicker and she is by my side ready to learn! i'd definately recommend it!

Re: Clicker Training ?

Definately recommend clicker training, its a simple way of marking the desired behaviour, but timing MUST be right! I used it all the time in the early days but OH couldn't get his timing right and was always clicking too late.

Haven't used it with Zach for months now but I was opening something in another room the other day and the packaging made a "click" that sounded like his clicker, he was right there waiting for the treat bless him!
