![]() My mum was talking to a lady today who rescues pound dogs from the council and she's going to get back to us with what she can find, so it'll be nice to rescue a dog from her because they're all on one of those horrible 7 day death sentance things that nasty councils like to give out ![]() |

Re: Dog Rescue Centres in Lancashire
Hi portia, so pleased for you - another poochie!!
I got my two from Leigh dogs and cats home, it's a private boarding kennel that has one block put aside for recues. Their rehoming policy will make your hair stand on end - I asked if I could go to the pub next door to think my adoption over and they basically said it's now or never! There were no questions, no home check and they didn't bat an eye when I said that I didn't even have collars or leads with me to get them to the car Don't let that put you off tho, those dogs are just as deserving as the next.My heart split in two when I went to Bolton Destitue Dogs Home, the out of date name should've prepared me for the out of date attitudes in this shelter. I found the staff unhelpful and rude but there were some sweet, sweet dogs in there. Be prepared to stand your ground at this place and ask to walk outdoors with any dog you think is a match. You could drive down to the Dogs trust at Huyton on the edge of L'pool. It's not too hard to find and the staff are hell bent on matching up the right dog to the right owner. ![]() I got my first 2 rescues from Station Rd Kennells in White Coppice near chorley, but this is going back a few years and I've heard that they no longer rehome (private boarding kennells). Might be worth a phone call tho. There is an rspca in B'pool and one in S'port too. All the ones I'm giving you are in my neck of the woods sorry!.... In your direction is Hyndburn Hyndburn Stray Dogs In Need, I don't have any personal experience of this org, but the website is full of info. And last but not least... the wonderful Rochdale Dog Rescue who are technically not a shelter, but find temporary homes for death row poundies until they find their forever homes. Rochdale Dog Rescue Help Dogs on Death Row Find Safety & Finally Loving Homes EVERYONE have a look Good luck! You know you'll be so chuffed when you've brought your new buddy home! xx

Re: Dog Rescue Centres in Lancashire
wow, thanks alpha! That's brill
I had a look on the Bolton Dogs Home website last night, the name did strike me a little, it sounds almost victorian or something LOLRochdale Dog Rescue does the same thing as the lady we're currently talking to - she said if a dog comes up that's a match for us, we'd take it on as a foster but with a view to keeping it if our dog and the new dog get along, which I think is a fab idea! Our local RSPCA will only let the dogs meet up at their kennels, which I think is silly because you can't tell what they're gonna be like once you get them home - they could be fine walking around a field but all hell could break loose once a new dog enters the current dogs territory. Again, thanks so much for all those places - it's really helpful! My parents aren't keen on travelling very far to look, but if nothing comes up then I think we might start looking further afield so like the dog's trust and stuff might come in handy - especially if they know the staff are so helpful! thankyou ![]() ooh, and the Hyndburn rescue sounds very promising, I go through Rishton on the bus every day and I had no idea they had a rescue centre! All the dogs on there at the mo seem a little on the big side for us (my mum is looking for a Yorkie or small JRT sort of size) but i'll definately keep track of this one, you never know what's going to come up ![]() Last edited by Verbatim; 12-04-2009 at 10:27 AM. |

Re: Dog Rescue Centres in Lancashire
It's so frustrating that you can't arrange a proper meeting at some of these centres, dogs in that sort of environment rarely show their true characters. But of course they simply don't have the funds or manpower to cover this.
Best of luck in your search - let us know how you get on!!
