Smile Grooming Help

Hi Everyone

new to this forum so please forgive give me if I breach protocol?

I am sure its been asked before but I am about to get my new Golden Retriever puppy and it has been 16 years since I last had a puppy (Black Lab) and I am sure the grooming products have moved on leaps and bounds.

What puppy grooming products should I initially get so my puppy can get used to daily grooming?

Any advice would be appreciated

thanks Yvonne

Re: Grooming Help

Hi
I have 2 Lhasas so the tools I need are a bit different I suppose but when they were both puppies I got a puppy grooming kit from pets at home. Its good as it has one that has rubber tips - it doesn't groom very well but is brilliant for them just getting used to getting groomed and a brush going over them

Totally agree the puppy grooming kits are great..the brush with rubber tips is more like a mas-sager to relax them and get them used to being touched

Re: Grooming Help

Great reccomendation from Chesben.
How exciting a new puppy I'm looking forward to hearing all about your new addition.
A soft brush to get them used to grooming is ideal, also get him/her used to standing, lying on their side as well as having their ears looked into, tail touched and paws and nails handled.

Re: Grooming Help

Hello Yvonne, I wish you much happiness with your new puppy.
Yes, just a gentle brush is all that is needed at first, and as Fleur has said, run your hands over the body and examine the ears and paws every day. This helps when it is taken to the vets, and you can feel if any thing is wrong with your dog.
Please post some pictures when you get your pup as we would love to see them.

Thanks everyone for all your advice. We are off to see the puppies again today even though they are only 10 days old. Its like being a proud mum.
I will certainly post some pictures once we bring her home on the 1st of June. This is such an exciting time. It has taken 18 months for us to get to this point after loosing our much loved lab, Ellie.

Once again thanks for all your advice

Yvonne
