I am so glad there ARE some responsible owners around the world.

So i was taking the boys for a walk today, and we came across a bull mastiff...i think it was a bull mastiff...but anyway the owner was most responsible and put his dog on a lead. Luckily i had Mika on a short lead but Dante was off lead and the both of them were sniffing each other and then the dog just went for dante. Thankfully the owner controlled his dog. I dread to think what would've happened if Mika went near him. I'm so glad i didn't encourage Mika to socialise with that dog...god knows what would have happpened.

But yes i am so glad there are SOME responsible owners around.

Yes you were lucky to meet a responsible owner, too few around at times.A dog attack can happen so quickly just because one dog or both don`t like eack other after sniffing .My dogs are great with other dogs and have been growled at for no reason I could see except they didn`t like the smell.

Whenever I see a dog on a lead and mine are free I always call them back and put them on their leads.
On a park or in a field, when I see a leashed dog I assume it must be on the lead for a reason (aggrression, illness, old age, etc) and try not to let my dogs pester it.

Its very irresponsible to allow dogs go over to dogs when they are on leads as you say. Ive met people while out walking who ive not met before and they can be offended when you put yours on a lead. Up to last may i was walking one of my springers with D.C.M (DILATED CARDIO MYOPATHY) his heart was so enlarged we had to be very very carefull with him, sudden death could have happened any time. One night i was walking him when i saw a dog i didnt know come running over to us barking so i put monty straight on the lead and stood on front of him to protect him when the ownerfinally made his way over he just flipped shouting at me that did i think he would let his dog over if he was nasty, there was no need to put mine on a lead people like me make their dogs fear aggressive, he really upset me then i was so cross when i got home that man had no idea of my circumstances at all. I have always let my dogs play run around with other dogs i love to see itlots of dogs p;aying together but at that time it was vital that he was not put under any stress if it could be helped.

So i always think when mine try run up to strange dogs that they could be causing more trouble and upset than we know i never let them luckily they come back to me on command but if a dog hasnt got good recall we must stay vigilant and respect other people and their dogs.

Re: I am so glad there ARE some responsible owners around the world.

I get what you're saying about being responsible calling my dog when someone puts a lead on their dogs, and trust me if Dante's recall was perfect it wouldn't be a problem. But no, when he sees a dog he becomes very very ignorant......What can i do? I can't go in the between a dog fight and get myself killed right? Thank god Mika was on his lead next to me, the last thing i would want is for him to be hurt. I wouldn't want Dante to be hurt either but Mika is a baby - for a dog like that to attack him, could probably kill him.

Seriously, glad there are some good people around.
