Advice please....look who's turned up!

Well, after losing Molly last month I'd been looking into fostering a dog until I'm in a position financially to offer a permanent home.

But look who turned up this morning as her owners were throwing her out into the streets because 'she didn't look tough enough'

All I know is that she's named Bella and she's 6 months old. I'm not even sure she's vaccinated It's 19 years since I had a puppy and I am very behind the times. They did say she was house trained - which she isn't lol.

Could anyone help me please.

When will she come into season, roughly?
Does she need puppy food at 6 months or small quantities of normal?
What is she? She's got a lot of Staff but a longish snout....?
Paddy the dane was deliriously happy at first and they had a whale of a time playing in the garden - until my friend left....her here. He seems a bit miffed - any suggestions?
Back to basics for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated - many thanks.

What a cutie !!!!!!

She should still have puppy food up to 1 year.

With the toileting i am sure she will pick it up just remember to have treats with you all the time so you can treat her for going outside and take her out every hour if possible.

She looks like lots of fun so ENJOY !!!!!!!!

aww she is Lovely, how kind of you to take her in you're a star!
you could give her adult food i did with mine its just a personal choice, they dont usually come into their 1st season so young but it can happen i had one who was exactly 6 months.

she is a lucky dog to have found you! good luck with her. xx

Re: Advice please....look who's turned up!

Thank you Rainy & Nouska & Rona I must admit she's made my day. 3 of us are going to contribute to support her until I'm in a position to take her on myself.....which I thought was quite nice (of my friend and her son).

Hmmmm, Paddy is entire so best I arrange the chop for him me thinks.....and pop to Asda to get some treats. I've been thrown into a happy state of panic lol.

When I leave them/her would it be a good idea to shut them in one room? Paddy isn't used to that but Bella has proven to be a minx already.....jumping into the bath and just basically jumping up everywhere

Thanks again for the advice

Re: Advice please....look who's turned up!

what a lovely dog, looks like she might grow quite big. I only give puppy food till they change their teeth so would have her on adult food but it is up to you which you prefer.
She could come in season any time from now till well over 12 months so you will have to keep an eye on that. If you dont think she is vaccinated it might be a good idea to check up with the previous owner and ask for the certificate, or find out which vet she uses and ask them to check or just get her done anyway.
How about a cage to put her in while you arent there, at least initially, or you might come home to a wrecked house. I wouldnt shut her in a room with your other dog just yet.
Are you going to take her to dog training classes, you will both learn a lot then.

Re: Advice please....look who's turned up!

Thank you for your replies - it's really nice to know that I can ask for advice

She came via my friend's son, who's a friend of a friend....and all that so I have no idea who threw her away to ask them about vaccinations. Friend's son thought she probably is vaccs but that isn't good enough for me so looks like we'll have to start again.

Puppy training classes sound like a good idea although so far she's been as good as gold. Already she's taking notice when I tell her to get down and not jumping up so much. Will have to look into classes once I've got over the shock lol.

I was a bit worried about Paddy but I've just let them both out in the garden and they still play so he is happy. I'm making sure he gets lots of fuss before young Bella so he's nose isn't out of joint. Bella really is a very pretty girl. More pics of them playing:
