Need Help buying a Staff Puppy

Hi i visited someones house today to see the puppies (staffordshire bull Terior).
There are 2 left and only 6 weeks old and they havent been wormed yet. Shouldnt the puppies be wormed by now? and are they too young yet?

Re: Need Help buying a Staff Puppy

I would say 6 weeks is too young, puppies learn a lot from their Mums that last couple of weeks.

Have you considered a rescue Staffie? There are lots available at the moment including puppies. I am sure one of our Staffie people on here can give you some help

Hi,
6 weeks is too early to leave mom, they should have been wormed, also Parents should be tested for L2/HC and they should have been screened for PHPV & PPSC.

Re: Need Help buying a Staff Puppy

6 weeks is far too young to leave their mother and the other litter mates they learn so much during this time its vital to the future development of a puppy, dread to think what age the others went at.

Do you particularly want a very young pup as there are so many staffys in rescue just now young ones as well, due to the fact that they have been the "in dog", a fashion accessory recently and typically, owners like this end up rehoming them. Rescue centres all over the country have loads our local rescue have 16 staffys in at the moment never been known to have that many of the same breed.

Hi I think the post meant are they to young to be wormed!

No they are not to young to be wormed quite the opposite they should have been regulaly wormed already I would stay clear of these pups, if they have not wormed the pups they may not have wormed mum either and you could be in for some heartbrake! Sorry

Agree with Vizzy Pups should be on their 3rd dose of wormer by now. If they have not been wormed what else has been missed to save money!!!

Re: Need Help buying a Staff Puppy

Hi,

Yes they should have been wormed by now - and 6 weeks is to early to be leaving mum.

If a rescue is not an option for you (it wasn't for us as we couldn't rehome with kids aged 3 and 5) - then try and find a reputable breeder, then all parents will be health tested, producing clear pups.

But as people on here have said, the rescues are full of Staffies, and they make fantastic pets! (I can see myself with a rescue in a few years - although hubby may not agree )

Good luck and let us know what happens!
