Scottie attacks
Family fury after Scottish highland terrier attack leaves girl, 5, scarred - Liverpool Echo.co.uk
Now had this been a Stafford,Rottie,GSD, etc the dog would have been dead the same day, also with a nice picture of a snarling dog showing it's teeth etc... And it just goes to show little dogs do attack but do NOT get the same media coverage as other breeds. |

Re: Scottie attacks
I agree the press coverage is always more sensationalised with certain breeds.
Reading the story, it sounds like the original owners were having difficulties with the dog and handed over to the current owner - why on earth was it left around a small child with food? And why did it take a year to sort out, with the dog out and about as normal? Just proves any dog can cause terrible damage. I never allow my dogs around small kids with food and Lilly only weighs 7lb. |

Re: Scottie attacks
That's discusting and yet this is so much proof. I was only talking the other day what would happen if one of my dogs ever attacked someone, in barney's case you may hear about it for a little but nothing big may just have to be muzzled etc where as if it was maya she'd be put to sleep, it'd be allover the news etc

I think the point the dad makes is valid - if it had been a SBT the sentence would of been harsher and it shouldn't make a difference, a dangerous dog is a dangerous dog, breed makes no difference. |

Re: Scottie attacks
I completely agree that any dog can turn at any time (in very much the same way humans can have a mental meltdown), its just statistics seem to be that there are more attacks by SBT's. When I say statistics, I am not talking from experience of researching this, just more 'the feel' of it if you know what I mean. Could it be because there are more SBT's than any other breed (and some of the sort of owners, the ones who own one for a trophy?) Where there have been attacks by SBT dogs - are they generally at the dogs own home?
I don't think any dog should be trusted completely with any child. G x |

Re: Scottie attacks
I agree. Any dog is capable of attacking a child, and alot of attacks do happen in the owners own home. Regardless of the breed, if a dog attacks adult or child then it should be destroyed. I understand that it would be devastating for the owners, particularly if it was a previously sociable dog, but a dog that attacks once is likely to do so again. If a dog of mine ever attacked someone, I would be taking it.
My concern with this dog is that it was already deemed to be dangerous. What on earth was it doing around children??? Plus, I cannot understand it being allowed to carry on as normal for a year until the court case. Thats like allowing a rapist or killer to be free until their trial date to carry on doing what they will. Who knows how many children the dog could have harmed in that time. |
