Re: A vicious dog fight

I'm sorry to hear this but maybe your new dog has only just started to feel well and this is her true character coming to the fore.
I sincerely hope not but this must be considered as a possibility

have them both spayed
also feed the top bitch first even with tip bits, along with petting them always the top bitch first.
I would watch them around toys, sticks or any type of food as this sets some dogs off.
If they were really fighting or it was a vicious fight they would have ripped into each other mainly going for the neck, not the legs and you would have had a lot of trouble parting them, i think it was maybe a one of due to one of them being in season and scrapping over a sick.
I have 7 dogs
6 females and 1 male
5 unspayed females
1 spayed female
and 1 uncastrated male
i have dealt with my fair share of fighting dogs luckly not with these but with past dogs
Wow you've got your hands full there!!

In your opinion do you think there is a top bitch in your pack? With my two they were both very competative and highly strung, there was never a clear 'top bitch' and the behaviourist explained that current theories (theories are always changing ) suggest that bitches don't form structured hyeracies (really bad sp!!)

Yana I really do hope that it was a one-off. Fights are scary. Best of luck

Boston will become famous soon enough
Re: A vicious dog fight

Yeah my lot are really good though they know who is in charge which is me then in terms of the pack
top of my pack is
1st (top) 8 year old springer bitch
2nd 7 year old chihuahua bitch (spayed)
3rd maltese cross bitch
4th chihuahua dog
5th chihuahua bitch
6th rotti cross lab bitch
7th chihuahua bitch lowest because she is the new dog

most of these trainers who talk about packs and being the top have never had more than 2 or 3 dogs normally so a lot of them dont know what they are talking about.

This is how my pack works and it works well i never have any problem even when my bitches come into season and they all come in at the same time, they all sleep, eat and walk together.

Re: A vicious dog fight

It is very strange what has happened especially because Misha (dogue) is usually the one who picks on Honey..in a nice way. Misha is very boystrous...and very out of control, although she would not fight because she is scared of anything...

I have a very special bond with Honey because of her past. When we found her she was hanging from a tree, unable to put her front paws down, badly beaten with broken ribs and quite possibly booted several times in her bum because she is still struggling to sit down properly. She was starved and scared and we took her to live with us because she has such a lovely temperament...She is always very submissive to us and other dogs in the park...We take her for a walk in the morning and all day she is no trouble at all...That dog was 8 months old when we found her and has had 4 owners so far (she is chipped)....So we really do NOT want to get rid of her especially because she has had it so tough so far..

On the other hand we feel really sorry for MIsha who has had to have stitches on her leg and had to spend a night at the vet's because of a stick...
We will have the spayed and see a therapist, i think..

Re: A vicious dog fight

MIsha has been the pack leader so far..but we have been told that now they have had a fight, the tables have turned and they no longer know who the pack leader is.. Is this true?

And it looks like unspayed bitches can live together...

Re: A vicious dog fight

You need to help them establish that Misha is still before Honey.
Feed her 1st, give treats 1st, attention 1st etc. With doorways too, you should go through first while bith dogs wait, then Misha while honey waits.

Bt yeah, don't let what everyones different advice on here confuse you, I'm sure the behaviourist will help you alot more as he or she will meet the dogs and see their body language etc.

I really hope you work this out your dogs are beautiful

Ps I have had 3 unspayed bitches living happily, a gsd (top dog as she was there 1st) a lab x retreiver, and mongrel (last as newest) I did have problems with the older two when either waws in season but I made sure they knew who was top and kept them seperated when they were 'edgy'.
