My 6 month old staff puppy is great with other dogs, my bofriend has to lurchers and a jack russell and she loves them. However, when shes playing with the jack russell and shes on top of her nipping her and doing what pups do, she starts really growling and i have to pull her off.. Why does she do it!? Is it over excitement? Or is it dominance?.. Shes never bit her its just a load of growling but it sounds horrible.. how do i get her out of it? Any ideas?

Sounds like normal puppy play. some dogs growl, some bare their teeth, others do neither.
As long as it doesn't get violent, I would leave them to it.
My boy can look vicious when he plays, but is never a problem

Yeah she shows her teeth and normally plays really nicely, but then out of the blue she starts really growling, it doesnt sound playful lol Ive never let her carry on because im too scared what would happen, maybe i should and see what happens?

lol sounds like normal staffie play 2 me ! my 2 sound like there killing each other when they play but they never hurt each other.With 2 staffies theres twice as much noise just make sure the littler dogs can cope with the ruff staffie play

You should hear the growls that come out of my lot! Lol
I have 9 7 week old staff cross puppies and when they play fight it sounds as if they are trying to kill eachother!

One has go bitten too hard once (while I've been in, anyway) and she squaked and he let go of her ear.

Puppies do growl when they are playing, if she hurt the other dog, he would let her know.

Mine growls,barks and sounds like a killer lol when playing, its all for show

He soon stops if the other dog yelps or the other dog stops when he cries (she has a thing about pulling his ears!) Then they sulk and dont play for a few mins then its all forgotten about and they carry on!

yeh it definately sounds like normal puppy play, bambam put her head to floor bum in the air then jumps and barks at what she's trying to play with lol looks so cute n funny! x

LOOL thanks for all your advice! ellie loves ears too! my boyfriends got a jack russell but shes got chiwahwah in her so shes got massive ears and ellie loves them! She makes lilly yelp somtimes when she tugs on them, poor thing. I hope your all right and the growlings just a play thing! It probably is but im justa scardy cat and hate all the noise lol
