Does anyone growl at there dogs???

I have read somewhere that you can growl at your puppy/dogs as a sort of warning to stop any unwanted behavior. i tried this this morning with Sonny to get him off of my feet when I was trying to get the kids breakfast, and it worked! - although I did feel a bit of an idiot!

The question I have is, is growling at them advisable? I don't want to scare him or induce fear in him, what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

When he has been told to "leave" something and he is not listening I usually "growl" leave at him and he listens!

You are just speaking his language. It is how his birth mother disciplined him. Np reason to change. You may also need to prove you are the Alpha dog by rolling him onto his back and keeping him there until he submits. Dog speak.

I was hoping you'd tell me that - as it worked instantly! Just wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing

Re: Does anyone growl at there dogs???

Yep I've tried it too it worked, it'll be interesting to hear what other people say though cos the last thing I'd want to do is provoke an unwanted reaction from her (ie aggression)

Re: Does anyone growl at there dogs???

I do this with Oscar and he barks his head off at me so i stand over him on all fours and gently lay on him until he "submits". I have rolled him onto his back before too when he is really out of hand and nipping.

Looks mad but works.

I have growled at my dog, it usually works. I also roll him onto his side in the submissive position if he steps out of line.
