Re: People who walk bitches in season...
Quote:
I only take my bitch out in the first week - and even then, I take her out in the car to a local industrial estate where there will be no off lead dogs (in fact no dogs). To take an inseason bitch out is not only risking your bitch, but utterly selfish to other dog owners. Meeting an inseason bitch whilst out can ruin a dog's behaviour around bitches for good. It will do no harm to keep a bitch in during it's season and allow them supervised access to the garden only. There are plenty of things that will exercise their mind they do not need a daily walk. |

Re: People who walk bitches in season...
Then why are bitches still allowed to enter dog shows when they are in season? I have over the years kept three unspayed/entire bitches, I have never had a mating either accidental nor planned,
As my youngest has come into season this week (her first) I have not taken her training, she has been walking as normal, albeit we have taken different walks to normal. DT |

Re: People who walk bitches in season...
I have kept Jessie at home during her season and will continue to do so. I dont own a car so when we leave the house its on foot and we have loads of dogs that wander the roads all day and night so thats a no no for me.
I think with enough time from the owner the dog can be kept happy and exerciced for four weeks of the year as long as the rest of the time exercice is constant.lol I spent jessies last season with a constant headache from rips constant crying. its pitiful what a boy dog goes through when a bitch is in full season. that week he screamed solid for three days and then I sent him down my sons for a few days. poor baby. and miss tartalot sticking her bum in his face. hugs Rachel and the girlies

Re: People who walk bitches in season...
I have never been to a dog show DT but I presume that all dogs are kept on leads and therefore under close control? I don't want to be forced to keep the entire dogs I walk on their leads just in case we come across a bitch in season that is being walked inappropriately (in my opinion)
Does anyone have any advice on what to do if one of my dogs does come across an in season bitch?

The problem is that a bitch owner knows her bitch is in season, the dog owner won't know - perhaps until his previous impeccable recall fails, he runs across a road and gets knocked over... A dog owner cannot preempt a situation they know nothing about. The onus must be on the bitches owner. If they want an entire bitch (and I have one too), then they must take responsiblity for it, not just for themselves, but so as not to cause distress to other dog owners. |

Re: People who walk bitches in season...
I think that dogs are welcomed at shows where benching takes place. mainly championship shows where the dogs go on before the bitches.
well thats what i was told by a judge and breeder of 20 years standing. ordinary open shows they wouldnt be too welcome. Advice on getting your dog away I dont really have any other than to use treats and walk away quickley/ Rachel and the girlies
