Puppy play bitting

Ok - so Sonny is the best pup anyone could ask accept......his constant play bitting!!

i know that this is a normal puppy trait, and he is only just over 7 weeks, so is a baby - but it is driving me insane! He can be soooo loving, but as soon as playtime comes he attacks me and my clothes all of the time! Have tried distracting him with toys etc but he still runs straight at me! How long does this go on for??

Thanks!

Re: Puppy play bitting

Drives you nuts doesn't it.

Oscar would hang on my dressing gown all round the house first thing in the morning (still would given half a chance)

The yelp thing really does work and then turn your back on them/igore them for a minute then play again.

I taught my kids this and my 2 year old does it better than any of us.

Re: Puppy play bitting

Will definatley try the yelp - he isn't bad with the kids, just seems to be me and hubby

The mornings (or after a long nap) are definatley the worst times, I have to walk everywhere with him hanging onto the bottom of my trouser leg contantly!!

Re: Puppy play bitting

That sounds familiar .

Oscar has been better since about 13 weeks. Worth remembering that pushing them off with your hands is an invitation to play in doggy language.

Re: Puppy play bitting

If it gets really bad you are better off putting a puppy lead on and just giving a gentle tug and saying "off".

Can't say if anything was effective, it drove me nuts, but it has died down alot now.
