I have a 13 week tri coloured border collie. She is the first collie that I have seen that was not the traditional black and white. 3 people in the last couple of days have asked me what she is crossed with!! I must admit she does not look typical border-she has quite short hair and at the moment looks like an egyptian sphinx. Her sisters were black and white and looked very fluffy. Her mum was also black and white and her dad red and white. Will she look more like a collie when her fur grows or will it not get any longer??

she should still have her puppy coat so sooner or later her coat will grow, and depends on if she might be a short coated or longer coated, our tess took ages to get a good coat on her and still not like some ive seen but then she was really mistreated as a pup.

show type registered border collies usually have medium length coats. working sheep dogs (if they're not registered, whether or not they ever set eyes on a sheep!) can have smooth, medium or full coats. Sounds like yours is a smooth coated - you can see the difference in puppies. Not quite as pretty maybe, but a damn sight easier to keep clean and groomed.
