I guess there is only so much you can do?
As for the black dog, he was scared when I tried to go near him, but looked healthy. Shiny coat, good weight, wasn't aggressive with the cats he chased.. just looked like he was distracted by them. He did have a collar and tags, but god knows if anyone will get close enough to read them. As I was still trying to work out if anyone was with him, I didn't have enough time to react brilliantly, but I did run after him and made myself too ill to go to work! lol. (I wasn't well to start with tbh) *If* I see him again, I'll try the food trick.. will he eat cat food? - It's all I have.
Last year I drove past a scottie dog that was just running along on his own. I made my friend turn around at the next roundabout and go back. We searched all over for him and eventually caught up with it at the back of Sainsburys. I held onto it (had no tag).. and then was like 'now what?' Luckily the owner was actually looking, and a car pulled up next to me and this guy said 'that's my dog'. Turns out his kid had just left the door open and the dog obviously made a bid for freedom. He wasn't actually all that grateful tbh, but I felt better knowing I hadn't just driven by. I seem to always be driving back to places if I think I see a lost or dead animal at the side of the road.. starting to feel like my own little animal welfare service! haha

he might eat cat food, he'll still be able to smell the meat in it and if he's hungry, I doubt he'll have a particular preference you could also try a bit of cheese or meat, like a slice of chicken or something, anything that'll smell good really. Like someone else said, I also wondered if maybe he was an escapee and the owner hadn't realised....sometimes my dog is out in the garden for ages, we wouldn't know if he'd escaped for quite a while because we're so used to him being out there enjoying himself for so long. Sometimes they will just make their own way home, but it does make you worry about cars and things
aww, i'd be so grateful if I was the scottie owner! He should be relieved that someone was kind enough to take it and find where it belongs! Not many people would do that, and I know i'd never be able to thank anyone enough if they returned my dog after he'd got lost....some people are so ungrateful!
