Re: Bull mastiff cross - ok with children?

This is a puppy right?

Ok i do agree that you do have to be worrried about your child - i mean you have to be worried about your child with any dog really. But as this is a puppy its important to get a puppy socialised with young children otherwise they do end up attacking children when they get older because they'll have not been around young children.

that being said, if you are really worried, i would speak to the parents of your child's friend. If the children are properly supervised around the puppy you have nothing to worry about. If you're worried about night time - the owners of the pup should not let the puppy sleep with the children.

At the end of the day it is up to you you are the parent afterall and you are right to be concerned.

Re: Bull mastiff cross - ok with children?

Well.........It depends on the dog and how its raised. I've seen what should have been usually loving and humble dogs turned into dogs who bite and bark and primarily disobey every order from their master, and I've also seen dogs like pit bulls and mastiffs become as gentle as can be. What bothers me is you allow her to play over at her friends house, but are questioning whether it's OK for her to spend the night. Whats the difference, shes over there regardless. If you don't mind her playing, you shouldn't mind her sleeping.

Re: Bull mastiff cross - ok with children?

If i had even the slightest concern about how a child of mine would be looked after no way would i allow a sleepover at anyone s house , if its only a pup it should be ok , but even pups can cause damage and 4 is very young you would never forgive your self if there were any problems.

Re: Bull mastiff cross - ok with children?

Personally I would leave a child alone with any dog, no matter how good with children.
Would this be the case there!? xxx

Re: Bull mastiff cross - ok with children?

I think the best way to deal with it is try and get to know the dog and the family well and make your decision from there. The best behaved dogs can turn so it really is a case of getting to know the people and see if they really are responsible enough to keep an eye on your daughter and the dog. I always keep an eye on my dogs when other children are at my house and my dogs have never shown any aggresion, but you dont always know the children will do.
