Re: Dog Grooming

Well it really depends on your mark up and profit- you need to work out if you can afford to give a free service to every dog. What is your competition like? How much have you invested? I would personally offer a discount. Have you thought of offering a dog sitting service for people when they are at work-I seem to remember my sister having a really difficult time trying to find one and when she did they cost the earth.!

I ran a dog grooming parlour for 4 years from scratch. I can honestly say doing the first groom for free is a terrible idea!!! You will get the worst of the worst wanting a bargain. The never been touched that will misbehave cause they arent used to it and will take hours. They wont break you in gently.

My advice would be to advertise and take on what you are comfortable with. If you are good it doesnt take long to gain business through word of mouth but think carefully about your prices now as it is hard to put them up once you start.

You could offer a free walk on payment of once in advance but you need commitment for the next bit of business or you wont see them again......its tough but be confident.....no one else knows how nervous you are x Good luck

Re: Dog Grooming

When you say you have no hands on experience do you mean you've not completed a grooming course?
Personally I'd not let anyone with no training near my dogs. If you've completed a course but never had paying customers then I think an introductory offer is worth considering, wouldn't do it for free though.

Sorry just being honest.

Re: Dog Grooming

You need to do lots of research and find out what your competitors are charging.

I would imagine it would be around:

£20 for a Westie/Yorkie
£25 Shih Tzu/Lhasa
£30 Cockers, Poodles, Bichons
£35+ Large breeds and double coated breeds

What dog grooming training and experience do you have?

Are you planning on just offereing a bathing service, or clipping?
