Someone made a very interesting point on the radio today, which I totally agreed with. They could not understand why the dogs were destroyed without doing an assessment on them, to try and ascertain what happened.

When a plane, train or car crashes, the first thing the authorities do is to try to determine the cause of the crash. Why not try and do this in the case of dogs. I am not saying that the dogs should be rehomed, since I do not think you could ever trust them again, but how will we ever learn why a dog attacks if nobody bothers to find out!
I agree Nina, our policy in the uk is to kill asap without doing an investigation.

I just get an odd feeling about this case, something just doesn't sit right with me for some reason.

From what I gather, the Staffie was brought as a guard dog. Now this seems strange to me, since Staffies (could be wrong), are not really known for their guarding abilities. The Majority I know, are extremely people friendly.

Secondly, the owner of the dogs in question, actually left the baby in his cot on the floor!!! Am I being over dramatic to say this is nothing short of murderous!

Totally agree,
Staffords are about as useful as a chocolate teapot for guarding, they are not guard dogs, infact they welcome strangers like they are a long lost friend from 20 years ago.

Where was the grandmother when these dogs were attacking this baby ?
Talk about irresponsible and again human error has caused the loss of 3 lives, totally avoidable.

Re: Another child killed!

YES YOU ARE RIGHT SALLYANNE THE DOG NEEDS TO BE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOR ASSESSMENT. BUT, IN MY SONS CASE THE OWNERS HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN INTERVIEWED TWO WEEKS AFTER THE INCIDENT, WHAT SENSE IS THAT,!!! THE DOG AND OWNERS ARE STILL GOING ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS AND THE PEOPLE LIVING NEARBY ARE UNAWARE THAT THIS DOG HAS ATTACKED AND BITTEN MY SON AND STILL LIVING AMONGST THEM.
I GAVE THE POLICE A RIGHT GOOD TELING OFF ABOUT THE TIME TAKEN TO GET THE CASE MOVING, SO NOW HE HAS CONTACTED OUR LOCAL PAPER,
MILTON KEYNES CITIZEN AND WE HOPE TO GET THE INCIDENT PUBLICISED TO SHOW UP THE POLICE WHO ARE DOWNRIGHT LAZY AND INCOMPETENT.mad:

Re: Another child killed!

You wouldn't leave a child in a room on its own with a wolf so why should it be any different from a dog. They all descend from wolves no matter their size.
If my 2 yr old son gets rough with my dog he gets corrected and I would certainly never leave him on his own with the dog.
It always annoys me when for weeks after something like this has happened people say oh its the breed of dog. NO it isn't, its the foolish person who thought dear little fluffy wuffy couldn't revert back to his instincts.

Re: Another child killed!

As I said in a previous post. The dogs should have been taken in for assessment, not destroyed straight away. How are we ever to find out why these dogs attack if they are immediately PTS. It just doesn't make sense at all
