Hi ya...The main thing in my oppion when using a crate,is how you go about it.
Never use the crate for punishment,ie. say for instance your dog has done something wrong, you should never then put puppy in the crate..I still have my crate for my 2 poodles, the door is open all the time except when we go to bed.Your puppy needs to feel he can go in and come out when he likes..
Can i ask how long have you had your puppy and how old is he?

Re: crate training

You could make the crate look a bit fun?

you know how with kids, when they don't eat, parents are encouraged to make eating healthy stuff a bit fun so kids enjoy it? Same with chores?

Do the same with your puppy - only this time make the crate a bit welcoming - a few toys in there maybe?

As Janice has said don't make the crate seem like something he needs to go in there for when he's punished. If you do that then its defeating the purpose really?

Am i right or am i talking complete rubbish? LOL

Re: crate training

Put the dogs food near it sorry cant remember if its a boy or a girl, put their favorite toy in there or put some treat in there. Praise when they sit/lay down. If you do put it in there with a locked gate put something in there to entertain it

Re: crate training

ive crate trained both of my goldens, as soon as i got home from buying the girls, they each went into their crate cus they were so tired, i left the door open so they could come out, after about an hour they went to their crate and there was a treat inside, they fell asleep ,i quickly closed the door, and when they woke up, not a murmer was had,i kept on doing the treat in the cage and leaving it open then closing it again for a few weeks, and luckly i didnt have a problem, i always partially crate train my puppies as i find this easier for the pups to adjust in their new homes,im a great believer in crate training,
