You appear to have contradicted yourself. You want the right for dog owners to let their dogs off the leash if they choose do to so and you would sanction that provided they are human friendly; or as we all agree have not shown aggression towards a human. However you also would sanction the right for dog owners to let their dogs off the leash even though the dog can or may be aggressive towards other dogs.

My dog isn't dog aggressive but he will protect himself. I always keep him on a leash in busy public areas that's a responsibility I accept which has nothing to do with aggression towards people or other dogs. My safety is then compromised when we are approached by dogs that are dog aggressive. I have two choices let go of the lead or split the dogs and keep them apart.

I don't take him to public Parks anymore and haven't done for about 12 months, because of the hassle.

This forum should not be a competition as to how docile our dogs are it should be a discussion as to how effective the DDL is and as the posts I refer to proves it isn't effective.

Sue

I don't think he'd fight for his own life but I think he'd fight for ours.
Hey Alan on this we seem to have the same idea,my two are very friendly, not aggresive at all, great with kids but they are dogs after all and as such need to be supervised at all times.

Re: Dangerous dog regulations!

Sue, your post is a typical example of what I have been talking about. However, I rather think that some people feel that this is an opinion not a FACT.

This law will go through, and already has in numerous public places around the country. Sadly, education has failed in this respect, and it is our dogs is are suffering because of it.

Re: Dangerous dog regulations!

If this law comes into force I may have to give up my dog she will not like it being on the lead all the time also I cannot drive because of medical reasons so I cannot take her places where she will be let of the lead also I think other people will feel the same as me there will be a lot more dogs being put into dog homes etc.

Re: Dangerous dog regulations!

Why would you give up your dog just because she wouldnt like being on a lead?
Would she prefer being in a shelter then?

Re: Dangerous dog regulations!

Unfortunately, I cannot name the areas of the country who have already introduced this law. It is not compulsory at the moment, but in view of the media hype and dog attacks, councils are in some areas, rushing it through. There was a case on our local news the other night, where people are no longer permitted to exercise their dogs off lead.

To be honest, if I were the owner of a Rottie I would certainly insure that he were kept firmly on a lead. Not because I am bias against Rottie's. Indeed, I have yet to meet one with an unsound temperament, but because of the hysteria surrounding them.

As a GSD owner as per my previous threads, they have only been permitted a free range away from public places. This way they cannot be blamed or framed.
