Re: Staffy's in rescue
My local rescue possible would rehome a staff or staff x to an experienced family, but on the sspca seem to have changed their tune since this thread was started.
I remember looking and all the staffs or staff x's said not to be homed with young children. There are still loads of staffs in the sspca kennels. But only one or 2 in my local kennels as usual.

Re: Staffy's in rescue
i wanted to go down the staffy rescue route but oh was adamant he wanted a puppy, but i suppose we both got our own way in the end as after we got dusty (paid £175 for her) we reported where we got her from as the conditions were terrible. i suppose some might say we shouldnt have bought her as we only encouraging poor breeding but if i'd had the money i would have bought her brother and sister too just to get them out of there.
there wasnt anything wrong that good food and a good home couldnt put right and im so happy with her. she's 21 weeks now and so adorable. i'd never had a pup before let alone a staff ( i always had rescue dogs, normally Xbreeds) but i love my little staffpup, she has never shown any aggression and is so loving, its such a shame this breed have a bad name as i think theyre perfect.

Re: Staffy's in rescue
I volunteer for Rochdale Dog Rescue, and the amount of staffies in are incredible; all of them are real sweethearts. They are harder to find rescue spaces for as most rescues are already chock full of their own staffies so they sit waiting patiently in our kennels.
We are full to bursting at the minute and if you look on the website link earlier the vast majority of dogs are staffies or crosses, with a couple of rottie's in there. Here is a link our website.. the one provided earlier goes to the forum so people may not have been able to view it? http://www.rochdale-dog-rescue.com/urgentdogs.html We do not rehome with young children, primarily because our dogs have come from a pound environment and we do not know their backgrounds before they came into our care in most cases. This is also bourne of experience whereby we have had knowledge of the dogs backround and parents have assured us the younger children are OK around dogs and then the dogs bounce back into our care as its not working. We do all think staffies make fantastic family dogs - mine just adores children and is as bombproof as a dog can be around them. He would be way too bouncy tho for toddlers even tho he wouldn't harm them on purpose. I don't live in the Rochdale area, but my local pound in the West mids is licenced for 70 dogs of which last time I was up there 61 were staffies and crosses. They do rehome and also look for places at other rescues but with odds like those its a constantly loosing battle. At least the ones we see in rescue are the 'lucky' ones. So many don't even make it out the pounds after their 7 days with no where to go and no one to love them. Last edited by EmCHammer; 06-01-2010 at 12:19 PM.. |
