Jumping Dog

Hey all,

Whats the best way to train your dog to stop jumping up at people?

Thanks,
Darren

Re: Jumping Dog

Hi Darren
That is a problem that I have had with my youngest that I have not experienced with any of my other dogs half as much. I have asked myself what I have done wrong on a number of occassions.

Are you refering to your dog doing this in the home or out on walks. My problem has not been out on walks but only in the home to visitors.

When we enter the house she jumps up us like mad - we obviously turn our back on her and ignore us but she was still jumping up our backs - we would order he into the sit position and not pay her any attention whatsoever until she had calmed dowm.

I think out prolem in empasized because we have more then one dog and she is vieing for attention - but as I said she is the only dog that does this - and it is most annoying. She still does it on occasion to us but we have managed to completely wipe it our when visitors come. We started by using a house line - the moment she would jump up we would pull the line and command he to sit - half the time she would the other half she would not.

Sadly I had to resort in the 'pet corrector' spray - which we only had to expell a couple of times and she got the message - now I only have to reach for the can and she immediately stops her undesirable behavior.
regards
DT

Re: Jumping Dog

I agree with Double trouble, turn your back or put your leg up so she as no chioce but to get down, the pet corrector is a funny one and if you read double toruble said sadley had to use, i would only use if recommended by a behoviurist as this can work with some dogs and can turn dogs the other way, i no as one of my trainers used it on tess when she growled at dogs and she bit my hand it scared her to death, so i use traing discs which she adopted to very good but yet again get advice before using good luck
