Re: Dogs for beginners
A good deal is down to the breed line for temprament but then poor training and not being in control 100% of the time can create a nightmare dog.
No dog from any breed can come with a 100% guarantee of nature as all dogs are different and all owners are different. Ever owner who takes on a dog takes a risk. Any owner that takes on any animal takes a risk of some kind.
I know I could trust my border collie with anything including my two little nieces, but I can't trust them to understand the consequences of their behaviour around him, creating excitement etc around a dog because they just can't make that connection and they are kids afterall. If they run Dillon will run after them. He won't bite or anything but he will run near them so if he catches them he trips them up and down they go in a pile of gravelled hands, grazed knees, followed by that three second check to see where "Mommy" is before the flood gates open and the loudspeakers are on full tilt. It is an accident at the end of the day but facial scars and injuries can become permanent. I know it's a bit of a "Health & Saftey - SPoil all my funn will ya?!" way of thinking butI have to take this into cvonsideration and therefore I will always supervise Dillon around children even though he would never show any form of aggresion to them (he's actually stopped my smallest niece from falling over - not conciously but he was the nearest thing for her to grab at the time).
I guess what I am trying to get across is - if you have enough time and patience to dedicate a third child, one that grows quicker than your other two, learns differently and plays by a different set of rules which you have to lay down from day one and remain consistant throughout, not turn your back on it for two minutes and can dedicate time for play and training then go for it.
If you can provide all of the above then depending on how much you can provide would dictate what breed to go for a low risk of ending up with trouble.
Careful consideration is my only advice and I wish you all the best.
