What do you do with your dogs when you go abroad?

Just a bit of curiosity and research as I just started a pet sitting service in January. What do you do with your pets when you go abroad?

Re: What do you do with your dogs when you go abroad?

Alan, our pet sitting service was established in 1998 and you will find that a lot of people now use our services, since they do not want the trauma of placing their animals in a kennel or cattery while they are away. The added home security is also a huge bonus.

We are recruiting at the moment, for live in sitters, but finding the right caliber of people is not easy, so if anyone is interested, please pm me.

We run a pet sitting/dog walking business too and cover your area Alan, we tend to find it's a pretty even split between them employing a pet sitter and putting their dogs in kennels.

If we have to all be away at the same time we get a friend in to 'see' to ours as we have such a great number it is awkward to leave them with someone who doesn't 'know' them. So it is friends for us who are used to having such a number of dogs.

We never go abroad because of the dogs. If we are away for the day competing ot training and some dogs are left at home, we get a friend to come and let them out for a run and feed them. I would only trust very experienced dog people with my dogs, peope who are on the same wave length as me, we swap favours, no money changes hands.

Re: What do you do with your dogs when you go abroad?

Would like to add that we get a lot of calls from frantic people who have been let down at the last minute by family or friends.

Once they have used our service, they remain clients, and I am sure that this is the same for all professional pet and house sitters.
