Just wanted to share my good news
I just wanted to share my good news and ask advice.
I recently posted about my geriatric BC Beau who was pts last friday. ![]() I still have my 7 yr old blue merle BC Cassie and my 4 yr old cocker spaniel/lhaso apso cross Neo. I lasted a day before we decided to try the dog rescues. However, they didn`t have any dogs suitable for a house with existing dogs and cats. Then the Dogs Trust offered us a puppy!! ![]() His mother is collie/lurcher cross, father unknown. I caved in immediately, despite insisting to my family that I was not having a new dog yet and definitely not a puppy!! ![]() I collected him today, 9 wks old. What a complete cutie pie! He looks collie to me and has the intelligence and inquisitive nature of a collie. He`s settled in well and already knows I`m the best cuddler in the world!! He`s even done two wees outside - how proud am I?? Only problem is the adult dogs I have. Usual story. They are obviously still grieving for the loss of Beau. Then I bring in this little monster. They are interested but growling as he comes near. Not vicious but warning. Cassie has done a couple of "border collie" nips, sort of `air nips`, no contact made. I won`t leave them unsupervised, will intervene if required and he has his crate. Cassie didn`t have such a problem when Neo was introduced 4/5 yrs ago. Has anyone any hints, advice on how to make this easier? I will try to include pics just `cos I`m a proud mam xx ![]() |

Re: Just wanted to share my good news
Hi well done on your new pup! I think its just their way of putting the pup into pecking order. I think it will get better - quite soon! Just persevere. I have introduced two rescues into my house in the last year and you will get there. It would be unusual to not have a bit of air biting. I would keep an eye at the mo but i think it will resolve quite quickly. Just make sure you still have special one to one time with the original two and they won't feel quite so 'under attack'.

Re: Just wanted to share my good news
i used to run a small animal rescue centre here at my farm,, when i say small..lol.. i had 336 animals . mostly farm and wild animals but i had some unwanted pets also.. we never used to take rescue dogs in though so im not sure this advice would be suitable but it worked with cats so why not give it a go.
this will only work if your other dogs are not really used to your car though! get all of your dogs and put them in your car and drive around for an hour or so (if they will all fit in your car) they get a bit scared and are sort of thrown together and end up best of friends..it works for cats a treat..( but of course the cats wouldnt be free in your car..they should be in the largest box you can get your hands on) i suppose you could maybe do the same sort of thing without a car..put them somewhere they are not used to and even maybe with a stranger present.. maybe in someones (a friend) garage. leave them there for an hr or so..but of course stay close at hand and go and check them often. they will be so pre occupied with there new surroundings that they wont notice the new pup and just get used to him being there. as i said up there..it works for cats but i dont know about dogs..everyone that has taken a cat away from the rescue centre and has another cat at home, i say the same thing and not one person has ever come back to me to say it didnt work. it wont work if one of the dogs/cats are at all familiar with the surroundings.. with cats i always say to the new owners.. if you are going to put them into a garage or shed or somewhere then dont leave a cat bowl or bed that belongs to one of the cats with them..it will then feel like the one cats property and he will be top cat then . im not an expert and sorry to all if this sounds stupid as i said it works for cats a treat |

Re: Just wanted to share my good news
Congratulations on your new pup.
Loe the pics, all the dogs are beautiful. I'm sure they'll settle in together soon, looks like you're already getting some good advice from the great people here. |
