Re: Are rescue centres too strict to rehome?

When looking for my Goldie I approach a small local rescue that needed a home for a young goldie girl, they wouldn't listen to me because my dog would be kenneled during the day, even though I would be taking him out 3 times in 8 hours and would be there working around him all day.
Goldie rescue were willing to listen and put me on their waiting list.
Maybe if people wish to adopt and have been turned down they should decide on a breed and contact the relevent rescue. They seem to have more time to check out the options for you taking on a dog.
I couln't vote because I have had two conflicting experiences

Re: Are rescue centres too strict to rehome?

Some rescue centres make me wonder if the animals are the front for their money making missions. Don't get me wrong the animals are well looked after etc. But if you go to some - the grounds are immaculate - most of the dogs are pedigree and sought after (so a quick turn around). Another rescue I came across got their fosterers to administer vaccine injections on their dogs.
The experience really did make me wonder.

Re: Are rescue centres too strict to rehome?

It would be very hard to suggest they are or they aren't I mean a lovely family could come along for a pet and have all the ideals yet get it home and neglect it.. You can't tell who is who?

Re: Are rescue centres too strict to rehome?

I don't think there's any single answer because the rehoming policies of rescues vary quite considerably. On the whole I would say breed rescues are more lenient and look at the individual cases more, however, they have more breed experience, and probably have more time to spend homechecking etc.

One thing I would say though, is that many reputable breeders have similar guidelines to those imposed by rescues so if it's easy to get a dog or puppy, you can be pretty sure your getting it from a poor breeder/rescue.

Re: Are rescue centres too strict to rehome?

sorry i cant answer that either, i have 2 rescue dogs both from different places and both were totally different, 1 asked all the questions and did home check and the 2nd 1 did nothing. i have written about it on another thread 'general chat' (kate and the rescues)
