I am just about to add a new dog to my family. We already have a 6 month old lab retriever and 2 cats, and hope to adopt another slightly older labrador. Has anyone got any tips to make this as easy as possible for all concerned?

Hi, firstly I would ensure that the new dog I am taking on is good around other dogs. then I would introduce the dogs off territory, see how they get on. If you do take on a lab watch out for too much rough and tumble play, there is a fine line between play and fight. ensure each dog has there own space and individual time with you.

Thanks to all who have contributed ideas. I now have a new 3 year old labrador who is getting on really well with my 6 month old and shows the cats a very healthy respect. The new dog is great at walking to heel off the lead, and the puppy is glued to her side whenever we go out, so I now have 2 very attentive dogs!
