Puppy Farming- May be upsetting to some

Just my views

When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.”

Puppy Farming
From the cruel beauty of white tigers I bring you to the shocking disgust of puppy farms.
Many people enjoy sharing their homes with man’s best friend because they are loving and loyal companions, sadly, people take advantage of this and begin a terrible trade… selling dogs that were bred purely for money.
Some puppy farms operate illegally and do not have a license, selling their dogs on to unsuspecting customers through newspapers and magasines.
Because these ‘farms’ are created to make money, they spend as little money on their dogs as they can. They keep a select few bitches which are solely there to breed. The puppies are always taken away too early and she becomes pregnant immediately after her litter has moved on. This puts a terrible strain on their young bodies and eventually they are slaughtered because they cannot produce anymore… Until they are sold, the puppies and their mothers are kept in dreadful conditions, investigators have found they are derived of exercise, are given enough water and food to barely keep them alive. They are also lacking healthcare which is a problem when you consider the cramped conditions they are confined to. Here is a story about a Labrador called Sam who came from one of these puppy farms.

Sam was just 5 weeks when he was taken away from his mother, they were kept in dark, damp conditions with just a tiny bit of dirty straw for bedding. The only light was from cracks in the walls and ceiling of the little crate him and his siblings and mother were kept in. He was surrounded by other dogs, whimpering and barking…this was all he knew for 5 weeks of his life… After those 5 weeks had passed the owners of the farm dragged him and his brothers and sisters away from their mother and threw them into a box, spraying them with a foul liquid to rid them of the infestation of fleas that was sharing their body and the little milk their mother was giving them. They were transported in a van with no food and very little water, many of the puppies were to weak and died on the journey to the pet shop. They were given solid food that upset their stomach and eventually these poorly puppies were sold on.
After the second day at his new home, Sam was taken to his vet where they told his owner he was too thin and had a nasty skin condition, also he was infested with fleas and worms that would make his health worsen. His owner was told he was lucky not to have the parvo virus which was very common in puppies from his backgrounds.
Over the next few months Sam began to get used to his new family and life, he became loving with his family but strangers upset him and he wound cower away. During this time, he was playing with the family when he suddenly yelped, having a pain shoot through his hips. This pain slowly got worse over time and running was impossible, walking a struggle from day to day. The vet told the owner that poor Sam had hip displasia and would have to be put to sleep when the pain got any worse… he was just 7 months old when they took him to the vets for the final time…the pain was too unbearable and his owner couldn’t bare to see him in pain any longer…
So think, do we really need any more puppies to be bred when rescue homes are already overflowing with dogs that are being put down because they can no longer be cared for. Never buy from a puppy farm! They treat the dogs so cruelly…Would you be so loving if this was happening to you? And yet, it sickens me to see even animals that have suffered cruelty by their owners or people in the past will still greet them with a wagging tail….
Thanks…
Laced x

Re: Puppy Farming- May be upsetting to some

Forum members are very aware NOT to line the puppy farmers pockets.

But it's very hard for any animal lover to walk away leaving these pups in these conditions - the evil trade needs wiping out - the general puplic needs educating, but what is also worrying me now is the amount of cross breeding from inexpeienced owners that it going on - just to raiswe a few bob! The rescues I feel are going to be pushed to the limits this year - many apoor puppy will never live to see life in a noraml happy home.##

So think on everyone, before buying or breeding
