Hello, I'm new. A toy dog and a jack russell?

Hello, I am new here. I absolutely love dogs and can't remember a time in my life without one, two or more! I currently own a Jack Russell called Trixie, she will be 2 in April. She recently came from a home where she was one of five dogs (my parents). Trixie was always 'my dog' but when I moved she came with me and now it's just me, her and my other half.

I'm considering getting another dog and have always liked smaller toy dogs... but I'm not going to pretend I know much about them, because I don't! My mother, many years ago, bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels so maybe I should have a chat with her too.
Would a small toy dog be happy to be around an active jack russell? I am in no rush to get a new addition to the family and I am still thinking it through. I will spend time doing my research.

My OH grew up with two English Cocker Spaniels - we've been considering this breed too. But I am keen to stick with smaller dogs. He also loves the look of French Bulldogs.

There's always the possibility of a cross breed, and of course, another jack russell. As I said, we're still thinking it through.

Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions/photos then please reply.

I am browsing, what I am assuming, is your website. Beautiful dogs. But I've been put off them as two poodles live next door and all they do is yap. Is this the case with all poodles or just the select few? Thanks.

Hi ya..I have had 4 poodles over the years and the only one that was a yappy little critter was the apricot one which belonged to my mum before she passed away..but the other 3 i have never had a problem with..To be totaly honest with you, i think people underestimated how intelligent poodles are,and see them just as lap dogs..but if you take the time to keep them interested and dont let them get bored, they are a very rewarding dog..

Re: Hello, I'm new. A toy dog and a jack russell?

I can vouch for the poodles intelligence!! I have a standard poodle x and he's the brightest (and most energetic) dog I've ever had!!

How about just going for a visit to your local rescue center? You could volunteer to do some dog walking, if you have the time. That way you get to have hands on experience of the dogs and if one takes your fancy you'll be able to get to know him before bringing him home? All rescues will be most grateful for your help and would let you bring along your dog to meet any prospective new pal!

Have you considered a staffy cross? I have 3 of the sweethearts and they make fab companions.
