Driving me mad!

Ok so in our living room we have double doors leading to outside, so Ruby can see straight outside into our garden and spends alot of time just sitting by them looking out!

The past few weeks shes started to do her poops outside now, but still doesn't get the picture to do wees out there too! We take her out and will be out there for ages with her, she'll do a poop and have a sniff, so we bring her in thinking she doesnt need a wee and she will do one straight on the floor lol!

How can we get her to realise wees are meant to be done outside too?

Also, she always sits by the door barking to go outside, so we let her out thinking she needs the toilet or something, but she goes out, walks half way up the garden, then comes straight back down barking to come back in again. And this is constant! She does it ALL the time, but its getting so annoying now. Because we will let her out and she will just come straight back in, i shut the door and she stands there again barking and jumping up, i never know if she wants to just go out to play or whether she needs the toilet so i need to let her out everytime, but 99% of the time she wants to come back in straight away!! It's driving me mad because i can never seem to get anything done!! What can i do??

Re: Driving me mad!

I would say keep doing what you are doing, every time she does it tap her nose, say no and put her outside for couple of mins...eventually she will get the hang of it.

I imagine i am going to have all these fun and hames when Cody can go outside.

Re: Driving me mad!

i would try and stay out with her until she makes a wee (even if it takes a bit longer) and then praise her alot and maybe give her a tasty treat
She seems still to be a bit confused where she is meant to do her toilet.

Good luck

Re: Driving me mad!

See, we started doing that last week, telling her 'NO!' when she did and put her outside, but then i felt really bad for this, because before this, we taught her that was the right place to go? SO in her head, thats where she has to go, now we're suddenly telling her off for it? I feel as if im going to confuse her x

Re: Driving me mad!

does she always wee in the same place, if so you could put some paper there and then start and move it towards the door bit by bit after each wee and hopefully she should follow it

Re: Driving me mad!

Yeah, the paper has always been by the back door, thats where it is and thats where she always goes. We've been outside for 30 mins + before, and then we'll come in and she'll go right on the paper by the door as soon as we step in, like shes saved it untill we get in!

I did try putting some paper OUTSIDE the door and seeing if she would go there but still no!

U simply have to retrain her doing her toilet outside instead of inside. It will take a bit of time but im sure she will get it quicker as u will imagine if u stay long enough wih her outside
She is just confused now but she will learn pretty fast!

I remember staying with mine sometimes for over half an hour till an hour outside but it was worth it as they soon understood very well that if they wee outside they will be praised with a tasty treat

When she does it inside, say no and take her out straight away.

Re: Driving me mad!

So its not being cruel if i say no and put her out if she does it inside?

I just felt really bad last time, as thats where she was learnt to do it, now im telling her off for it, i didnt know if i was going to make things worse and confuse her or something..

Re: Driving me mad!

sounds like she is saving it till she gets back to her paper, so you could keep putting paper outside for her but maybe take it out as you go out with her, im sure she will get the idea eventually
