What's the most licky type of dog?!
I've noticed when visiting friends that some dogs love to slobber over my hands and face! Some even try and lick people's legs. Are there some breeds that obsess over licking more than others? I've heard that labradors do.
Also, what are your opinions on letting a dog lick you? Some people think it's disgusting, others allow it freely. |

Re: What's the most licky type of dog?!
I don't allow my dogs to lick especially faces - yuk
Zipper will lick your hands if you are not stoking him and he wants a cuddle ![]() I don't think there are any breeds in particular - maybe gun dogs as they are trained to use their mouths - I think it is how they are "trained" |

Re: What's the most licky type of dog?!
Our staffy is the licker from hell and we have found it near impossible to stop him doing it, our japanese spitz doesn't lick at all really and my pug x only does it if you try and kiss her first. Our lhasa doesn't have the energy to move his head from his pillow let alone lick anyone.
My mums pugs are mega lickers, and the pups she has had have all been the same...and they do lick whatever part of your body they can get to ![]() |

Re: What's the most licky type of dog?!
My friends Akita used to use my hands like horses use salt licks (laughing).
Some people do find it very off puting but usually these are pet free people i find! |

My retriever licks my feet, but it actually feels nice lol so I let her get on with it.
Dogs obviously lick some rather unpleasant substances- but their saliva is also an antiseptic. A couple of times Lily has licked the baby's face (I was not quick enough to stop her) but she was all okay - no illness. Builds up the immune system, thats what I say. ![]() |
