Microchip or not?

Should I or shouldn't I microchip Cody...
The vet said it is a big needle...
What are the advantages to this service...surely if my dog was lost he'd only be linked to me if taken in to the vets or animal services? And i know a lot of people keep strays?

So many questions

Re: Microchip or not?

Both of mine are chipped - I personally wouldn't of not done it.

Because Lilly is small we waited and had it done the same time she was spayed so she didn't have to have the big needle when she was awake. She was nervous of the vets and I didn't want to make that worse. (she now weighs 7lb fully grown)

However Zipper was chipped at 12 weeks along with is second vacination and was fine. (he is 16lb fully grown)

Can't remember how much they weighed when they were chipped though.

The vet said we could have it done when we got him snipped?
Im just not entirely sure of the benefit? Dont think we will get it done with second V's he only weight 1.95 kilos...

Re: Microchip or not?

Both Mia and Kai are chipped..Mia was allready done when i got her,but i had Kai done..and yes it is what i call a big needle, but i can honestly say Kai was fine.I think it hurt me more watching it..but for the price i think its well worth having done, for peace of mind.

Re: Microchip or not?

Millie was chipped when she had her 2nd needle, it is a bigger needle but its over and done with in seconds, and she then gave the vet a kiss, i would recommend it..

Re: Microchip or not?

i would definitly micro chip as it only increases the chance of getting ur dog back if lost....so thats only an advantage.

The needle isnt as big as it might sound .... its bigger than an usuall needle but the pet doesnt really feel it when done properly.
I first myself was a bit worried but its not as bad as i imagined

I had my cats micro chipped and they didnt even felt anything happened to them so i guess a small dog shouldnt feel as much pain

Re: Microchip or not?

Thanks for your advise guys.
I think I will have him mircochiped if and when we get his castration done.
Don't think I could face him having it on his second jab.

Re: Microchip or not?

definatly do it! ive heard too many scare stories about collars being lost and if cody was to get "kidnaped" a microchip doesnt lie if you suspect someone. I took Isla when she was 5 months and vet said its injected in the scruff of the neck where they are picked up by so its less sensitive area then anywhere else. she didnt even flinch! its good that you can get it done when cody's under, one less little stress to worry about.
