Re: Microchip or not?
I got Jack his chip the day before yesterday, he didnt even blink, just happily sat there watching other people and dogs walking by (it was in the rescue home reception area, rather than a vets room - so there were many MANY exciting smells for him)

Re: Microchip or not?
We just had our pup chipped and it was over and done before you know it. Archie had the chip with a thermometer in it. The vet said it can be a very handy if it is an emergency and he needs a quick guide to what is going on. I would not consider not getting any of my dogs chipped.

I have a story about a lady that was looking after my toy pom a few years ago. well lets just say the baby found her way out of her back yard and wound up across the street in a park, just 6 pounds, lol! She was had the chip and thanks god because the lady that had found her took her to the vet and located me. Needless to say the lady never dog had my dog in her care ever again!

Re: Microchip or not?
Thanks for your advise everyone.
Great to hear what everyone thinks. Defo going to get him chipped. Vets do put a lot of pressure on to get them neautred - and i dont really see the need. |

Re: Microchip or not?
Depends if you have problems, but unless Jack gets 'difficult' when he reaches maturity (chasing the girls etc) I won't be putting him through it, and he's never completly off lead so there's no chance of him getting a girly pregnant!
I don't know why they put a lot of pressure on, but I suppose its partly money and partly 'cause they see so many poorly puppies by people not doing it just because they can't be bothered and not taking the necessarry precautions (like keeping them away from girlys and girlys from stray boys etc) |

Re: Microchip or not?
My dogs are toy poodles and Inca has a very low pain threshold so I worried for a while about having her microchipped. At her first injection, she had to go to the emergency vet because she became partially paralysed from the needle. I had to have her done because we were sending some blood work to America. Neither poodle showed any signs of pain and little drama queen Inca, didn't notice the needle going in.

Re: Microchip or not?
Hi!
Last year i've put a microchip to my pets. I have a cat and a dog. I've made some research and talk seriously with my vet. Implanting a microchip doesn't hurt. The veterinarian has to inject a tiny chip about the size of a grain of rice just under the pet's skin between the shoulder blades. The number on the chip is then entered into a database matching the name and phone number of the pet’s owner and when a lost pet is found, any animal hospital, shelter, or humane society can use a special handheld microchip scanner to read our microchip's unique ID number. ![]() I think this is a good alternative to feel less stressed about loosing our pets. Re: Microchip or not?
you dont have to go to the vets to get your dogs microchipped, i myself am registered to microchip and i go to peoples houses cos its less stressful for the dogs, cos the only time we tend to take them is to have something they think is really horrible done to them, mine are quivering wrecks as soon as they get out of the car and i have a really nice vet. so in saying all that see if there are any mobile chippers around you
