Used Frontline in the past, now feed small amounts of raw garlic. No fleas no ticks.

And this is in an environment with chickens and ducks near by.

Re: flea treatments

I use Advocate on my cat and dog, Frontline just wouldn't touch them. They kept swapping fleas between them so it was a vicious circle. Advocate is fab stuff, although expensive.

ooo garlic? never heard of that before, might give it a bash, how much and how often do you feed the garlic?

eta: does anyone use flea collars, do they work and do you need to shave the dog to get contact with skin? i also seen an electronic thing you put on there collar which emits ultrasonic sound waves that stops fleas, we have something similar here for rats and mice and it works really well, wonder if anyone has tried that

I use advocate once a month on both cat and dog. My vet advised against the collars because all it does is push the fleas further towards their back-ends. I also have a spray for the house which I use a couple of times a year (but would be very interested in any suggestions from peeps as to which spray/treatment is best)
