chihuahua x yorkie attending training classes

My dads gf has decided to join a good manners training class starting tomorrow. She has 4 dogs that are all very bad behaved/unsocialised but the naughtiest and the one going to training group is a 2 year old male chihuahua x yorkie, he has a lot of issues which I believe is down to the lack of socialisation and the fact that he's pampered, allowed to get away with everything, never stopped from pooing in the house etc .... his big issue is strangers and other dogs, he constantly barks when on a walk, I mean non stop! he also snaps at strangers aggressively, he has bit the delivery guy (he didn't report him) and has also bit me! This dog is very small (10lbs) so my dads gf doesn't do anything to help his behaviour, for instance when he charges at the front door snarling when anyone enters she shouts at him to come to her then cuddles him personally I feel that taking him to a basic good manners training group will be no use for him? he needs one to one training to start with, does anyone agree?

Re: chihuahua x yorkie attending training classes

Sounds like a 1-2-1 assessment with a behaviourist might be a good idea; classes may well be overwhelming I would have thought for a dog like that. Has your Dad's GF spoken to the trainer running the classes and been to observe some beforehand to check that they are suitable?

I have asked her to phone them to ask if they are able to accomodate his needs and to visit one of the classes to see if they will be suitable but she hasn't bothered.
When she booked the class she didnt mention all the behavioural issues, just said he needs some basic training I am wondering whether she might be asked to leave?
She has also been advised to use a collar but she has ignored that and is taking his harness its like she has the attitude "I know best" sort of thing, this attitude of hers has caused the dogs issues to begin with.

I don't think there is anything you can do - if the trainer thinks the dog is suitable for the class then that is good; if she is asked not to attend again and given advice on what to do, then hopefully she will listen to the advice that she is given from a professional.
