What's the best piece of advice you have ever heard???

We have all had advice from various quarters, friends, family, internet, trainers, behaviourists etc.

What is the best piece of advice you have come across and how did i make you feel/think????

Personally ,,,i like the sort of advice that puts dog behaviour into perspective and the sort of advice that makes total sense!!

A prime example came from an unlikely source!!!! The Ozzy Osbourne family show!!!

Sharon was bleating because one of her small dogs (forget which one) was constantly peeing inside the house. She was groaning at Ozzy and saying she thought the dog needed a behaviourist to solve the problem...

Ozzy, in his usual forthright manner (swear words ommitted here) came out with the classic answer -

" she dont need a psychiatrist! open the goddamn door"

Re: What's the best piece of advice you have ever heard???

Brilliant

Mine would be

''don't ever let anyone do to your dog what you don't feel comfortable with''

in relation to training classes etc and I remember one particular time I was taking my foster GSD to a local class and she had a fab sit and down etc. Well the ''trainer'' used her to show an example of how to make a dog lie down when it don't want to.... by pushing between her shoulderblades and she yelped!
I snatched the lead off him and shouted that she has a perfect Down command and that dogs should Want to do things not be Forced. I then suggested to teh rest of the class they found a class with a trainer who uses positive re-inforcement.
lucysnewmum, Dotte and BexyBoo like this.

My favourite was Novak's trainer at puppy class. I said he only sat if I had a treat in my hand, she said 'you don't work for free, don't expect him too'

“Training is something you do with your dog not to your dog”

and

“Teach the dog what you want him to do and reward for that instead of constantly scolding him for what not to do. More directions, less corrections."
