Quite shocked..

My Auntie is here visiting atm and i love when she visits as she is the only person in the family who is interested and owns dogs. I love to hear about her BC(English) and Staffy(Mustard). I always thought of her as fairly responsible until today...

She told me when English is in season she leaves them together because English is to fast for him and can get away before the can mate. She also informed me, they never get walked, they have the run of the garden. Kinda explains why her garden is full of massive holes.

She asked when English would calm down as she is so hyper. Obvious answer, never if shes not getting walks!

I was pretty lost for words...

Re: Quite shocked..

It is a pity that people do not truly consider the needs of dogs and only the ways to make them a convenient lifestyle accessory.

Re: Quite shocked..

There are people round here who I know have dogs yet I never see them being walked I often wonder why you would want a dog if you didn't want to look after it properly and enjoy walks together.

Always harder when its family/friends you normally like & respect . Perhaps she is naive about mating risk and many people do think playing in the garden is enough especially if they've a large plot.

Re: Quite shocked..

Totally agree guys. Those dogs must be bored out of their minds. If i miss a days walk with the boys i feel so guilty and they make sure i do! God knows why someone would get a collie intending not to walk it or any breed for that matter

There's a Springer that lives in my street and in the 2 years i have lived here i have never seen him out for a walk. Poor wee soul

Totally, i looked up to her a lot when i was younger. She must be. She seemed pretty convinced their was no chance he would get her. Personally i wouldn't be taking the chance! The thing is, her garden is tiny and messy. The dogs have dug massive holes, out of boredom i suspect.

Its like folk thinking siblings/relations won't mate.

Could be her upbringing some people think its normal that the family dog doesn't leave the property or they've had training issues and simply given up taking it out to solve the problem. There's some little yappy dogs living on my street that i've never seen in 5yrs of living here.

Re: Quite shocked..

They never had dogs growing up so i guess that could be why she is so clueless. However i never either and my dogs get everything they need

It is such ashame and the worst part is they dont see anything wrong with it

Re: Quite shocked..

Its a shame as its nice doing things with the dogs and as you said makes them easier to live with when stimulated & exercised.
