Its only a dog!!!

I love Ebony so much and I freely admit that since having her I am dog mad!!!! I am perfectly aware of making a rod for one's back but it does get to me when "experienced" owners say "its only a dog" and you should be able to leave it for X amount of hours a day.

I'm lucky that I work all sorts of shifts so I only ever have to find doggy care for five days of the month. Fortunately, I have a good friend that looks after her for most of that time and a back up Granny. Ebony is independent and we do leave her for a few hours every so often if we go out for a meal or go to see friends (problem free).

I mainly get stick from my co- workers.... Anyone else get some stick from people?

Ebony is a dog but so much more

Re: Its only a dog!!!

I'm exactly the same, after getting Bryson all I talk about and read about is dogs, training of dogs, dog foods, toys hehe, he's become my life I've taken him to one on one training classes and we're starting puppy socialisation tomoro and if that goes well he'll start doggt daycare at the same place My friends now think I'm mad, hehe, I dont like leaving him on his own for too long, he suffers from mild SA so when I'm in college and my bf is in work he's with his grandmother Everyone keeps telling me he's just a dog, but he's not, or not to me, he's my baby

Re: Its only a dog!!!

I'm lucky insofar as my dogs are with me constantly, as far as getting 'Stick', if anyone were to do so they would be told in no uncertain terms what to do with said stick.. To be honest, I never get comments from people who know me, but as my dogs are gun dogs I've had a bit from the anti shooting fraternity, but thats all water off a ducks back to me.

Yes, I think if you are happy and he is happy with the situation then what is the problem! It just bugs me when I get the rolling of the eyes.... and "advice".

I do play on it though I tell people that if and when I have a little girl her middle name is going to be Ebony you should see their faces haha

Re: Its only a dog!!!

my girls are just that- my Girls/ the 'Kids'. they are not Just dogs- and they have better manners than most people round here combined!
i always have people commenting on their topknots and coats, have had poeple ask my why i dont let them look like 'real' yorkies (these being people that have never seen a show yorkie even on tv) and no dog would ever Need a coat- never had a long Haired toy breed then?!
the only time i've ever swore at my aunt was the day after one of my dogs had passed away, when she asked why i was So upset- it was Just a dog. words cant describe what i wanted to say to her (and cant repeat what i Did say as i like my membership here )
i talk to the doglets like they are people- sometimes get a more coherent response from them than the neighbours- and give comands politely but firmishly (yt ppl will get what i mean) and they get their twice daily walks and are now raw fed. so treated like 'real' dogs, but if ever i have someone tell me they are Just dogs again... heads will roll- full stop!

Re: Its only a dog!!!

Ah it does bug me too, I can feel kinda stupid sometimes, but I love my dog and want to do what's best for him, and he's so cute that how can I not talk about him I think some dog people just see their dogs as a dog, while I see my little boy as a part of my family

Oh and the "advice" I can do without, I'm constantly surprised by the idiots that can raise seemingly well adjusted dogs using the "advice" they give to me and also surprised by the people I thought would be good dog people being some of the worst....
