Sammy's Attack Update

Rang the dog warden today as i had heard nothing. Got told they cant do anything about it even though i got bitten. Was told to report it to the police.

I told them that it states on their website that they deal with dangerous and out of control dogs..the 'department manager' told me if that is the case then they will ammend the website.

I asked him what do they deal with then..he said stray dogs and dog poo, aswel as many other sevices which he could not go into right now.

Yet they pts that innocent pup called Tyson on tv.

Birmingham City Council and their Dog Warden Department = A waste of time and pathetic.

Re: Sammy's Attack Update

To be honest - If I'd got bitten badly I'd have reported to the police as well as the dog warden. It's the same story where I live - the dog warden basically deals with stray dogs and thats about it.

Re: Sammy's Attack Update

I'm confused I thought the advice given on the previous thread WAS to report it to the police, as you'd been bitten. I know I posted as much, and it may be that the police try to shrug it off and not really take it any further, which is up to how much you push it really. If you're happy with this guy wandering around with this bitch out of control, possibly to bump into him again, then do nothing.

You have to be sure you can live with what might happen as a consequence of your actions as well, if you do decide to report him, after all, they don't impound owners or put them to sleep; and who knows what the owner will do if he gets a visit asking him about his dog, he might decide he's best rid of her, then get a new pup to mess up in a couple of months.

Rock and hard place spring to mind.

See iv come to understand from a few people that walk their dogs in the same park that this particular dog has tried something like this before and the owner has been asked to keep muzzled or atleast on lead by another guy who walks his lab there.

The owner refuses to do so which is imo is quite negligent and dangerous as he has no control over this dog whatsoever.

The reason i didnt tell the police was because i dont want the dog pts. I thought atleast the warden would be able to enforce a muzzle on her. I really dont blame the dog, its the idiot owner that needs to be spoken to. Sometimes all it takes is a little word from some kind of authority to deal with people like this..but i fear nothing is gonna get done about it.

Re: Sammy's Attack Update

Sorry, I don't know the full story but if my dog had been attacked and I had been bitten (unprovoked) I would report it. If the dog has done it once who is to say it won't do it again? Imagine if 'next time' it's a child or the other dog gets seriously injured. The owner is to blame really not the dog but tell that to its next victim.

Many years ago two medium sized dogs often roamed the streets here, the owner couldn't see a problem with just letting them out. They were fine with people but would terrorize other dogs. A yorkshire terrier was their last victim, the dogs managed to grab an end each and tugged. It was horrific, the elderly owner was totally distraught - she could do nothing.
Result of a bad owner - yes but the dogs could not be trusted.

Re: Sammy's Attack Update

We used to have an old guy who walked his two dogs off lead regularly in the local park. He had been told by the dog warden to have them both muzzled as they regularly attacked other dogs. He never, ever muzzled them. I always managed to keep my dogs away from him and his dogs so they never got attacked, but after witnessing his dogs attack another dog, I rang the warden on my mobile to tell them he was in the park with his dogs unmuzzled. They knew the guy and dogs I was talking about and said they would be straight there - yep, you've guessed it, they didn't come. I hung around as long as I could and the owner of the poor dog that was attacked said he would wait till the warden came. Next time I saw the owner, he said he waited almost an hour but the warden never arrived - although he rang them several times and was told they were just outside the park and would be with him any minute!
Lost my faith in dog wardens I am afraid.

Tbh I would have reported it to the police (I have done this myself previously). You may not want the dog to be pts but I would rather risk that than risk my dog & others (dogs & people) being attacked & possibly seriously injured because I didn't report the incident.

Whatever you are trying to achieve be realistic about what can be done and who can effect and enforce that outcome.

I can't recall if it was your thread I responded to earlier today with guidance about how to get the desired response from the police/press. (If not look it up.)

To be honest your best line of attack is to progress a compensation claim for the injury that you have received, but to do this you need pictures, medical costs and then pursue the owner via the small claims court.

If you only want to invest a nagging phone call can you really expect anyone to take your case seriously when there are limited resources available?

It is not your choice as to the penalty the owner or the dog receives - that's not how the application of the law works in this country.

I would speculate you have spent more time venting in this forum than documenting a case against the dog in question?

If a Lab owner told me to muzzle my dog or keep it on a leash I wouldnt either. As they may have IMO read a situation wrong etc

Obs this dog is grumpy, cant believe the dog warden is doing nothing. I saw our local dog warden driving around today- dear lord I would not mess with her!
