Re: Calling all beagle, Manchester terrier, cocker spaniel owners!

My beagle has not been brought up with a cat but is fine with bold ones even let one rub up against her (although she did look slightly bemused) but i'm pretty sure she would chase if they ran not that any have ... our neighbours cat just sits on the fence sometimes she used to bark at it , but it nonchalantly flicked it's tail and ignored her.

Totally agree, it depends how you bring them up. Cats are not likely to be overjoyed with a puppy but if you set boundaries from the start with the new addition the cats will soon get used to it. Jaz tends to get a bit bullied by ours rather than the other way round!

Re: Calling all beagle, Manchester terrier, cocker spaniel owners!

It doesn't really matter what breed I don't think, just how they are introduced.

Most dogs will want to sniff a cat, cat gets scared, runs off, dogs chases!

I had two cats then got a 'cat hating' JRT and there was a bit of chasing at first but we had a baby gate so the cats had a safe place to run to and after a month or two the cats were happy around Buster and didn't feel the need to run off so he didn't want to chase them. Since then we've added two more dogs and now the cats and all three dogs curl up together

Are you getting a pup or an older rescue?

My MT loves to chase anything that moves so would not trust him with a cat, rabbit or anything else in the house!
