Re: Do you let the media control your thoughts on a breed.
The media has never made me feel anything other than sympathy towards breeds being badly depicted....I was brought up to know a dog is what it learns to be...if given the correct training and life it will be happy and friendly, if it's not then it will have issues...it's all down to the owners.
I have an aunt who told me she would never go near a rottie as they're so dangerous...while fussing Tummel who is part rott This is the same aunt who owns a DA staffXGSD My OH's family are also afraid of them but thats because his cousin was mauled by 2 rotties and she died due to her injuries...so i think thats fair enough that they are afraid.I was badly bitten on my face by a shetland sheepdog...i neither like or dislike the breed because of it, same with chihuahua's, my gran had one and i must have been bitten well over 20 times by it but again it hasn't ever affected how i see the breed ![]() Funnily enough i've never met an aggressive BT of any kind...i've met aggressive labs, JRT's, bichons and a labradoodle but never an aggressive bull terrier or guarding breed(with the exception of one rottieX who is a rescue and was used as a bait dog) so i guess i must be lucky ![]()

Re: Do you let the media control your thoughts on a breed.
exactly, i was attacked by a rough coated collie (my dalmatian at the time came to the rescue and got the dog away) but never held a grudge even against that dog because the moment it went to it's owner the man kicked it to the ground. so no wonder it was aggressive if that was the way it was treated. so even the "ideal" lassy breed isn't perfect.

Re: Do you let the media control your thoughts on a breed.
The media rarely print anything that's true so I don't believe newspapers etc. No one would have a dog if you believed everything they printed.
Like the evil akita that mauled a child. The poor thing was still on painkillers from being neutered, had just been adopted from a rescue the day before and had been left alone with a strange child, well to it, and the kid had leaned over it while it was sleeping on the floor . It only bit her once I think but they were painting it as some sort of savage monster |
