Why did you pick "your" collar??

Terence needs a new collar and I am undecided what to get.

SO, what made you decide on the type of collar your dog has? Or have you got several for different jobs/times of day etc??

Half-check? "Normal"? Nylon? Leather?

Any ideas would be fab. And links to where you purchased, please.

Thanks.

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

Dave has a martingale collar as normal collars come over his head. Dixie has one to match and they both have a D ring so that I can clip the lead to the non tightening bit but that is where I put the tags.

Xiva has a plastic buckle collar.

They all came from sid&kira

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

What made me pick it?

It was 1inch thick (he looks odd in narrow collars)
He needed a new one, (had bust the holes in the old one)
It was not bright pink (I dont mind him having a feminine side, his dad disagrees)
It was £3.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is a lot like this but black and not from P@h

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

Maya's got 3 collars, two I switch around.

Two are normal flat collars one from ruffwear and another by lupine, both gifts from my husband.

The top one is a semi slip, after I bough a slip collar that maya had broken I found it useful to remove her from a fight or attempt to attack much easier. It was the closest I found and works just as well. It's pink because she only wears pink and purple

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

We use either a half check or fixed plastic clip collar:

Ruffwear Hoopie Collar:

Ruff Wear | Collars

I love this collar as it has a muffler to prevent jingling, reflective stitching, seperate ID tag clip, is very lightweight yet strong. Plus is a really vivid bright red - Stands out and easy to see. Its the only collar we leave on Millie in the house as its lightweight.

Rogz Half Check (Pink):

Like this one but Millie has lumo Pink ; Rogz Reflective Black Half-Check Obedience Dog Collars - Dogs - Oz Pet Shop

Because again its light weight, lumo pink, has reflective sticthing and we use it around town. Millie has backed out of fixed collars as sshe has a chunky head. So if walking through busier areas (Millie is used to living in a village environment) il normally use a half check.

We do also have a Wainwrights leather collar (Hasnt worn it in months! ) ive gone of it slightly as it is quite 'chunky'. Also it blend sin with her black / tan - fine in summe rbut dont use in winter as we only walk in the dark.

I guess I try not to buy cheap collars etc as I want to know its strong. We prefer half check due to Millies neck size but use a fixed colllar or harness when off lead/ in quiter areas or using a flexi. (Millie has a Julius K9 Harness and a Ezy Dog one.) I also tend to go for bright collars where possible - Mainly for visibility purposes

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

Mine have three each, although Bos has just lost one of his so am going ot buy them both a new one when we go to Crufts ()

They have a fancy leather one each from P'etiquette. Lexis is a tan leather with pink stones and Bosleys is a blue leather with blue stones, really good quality.
Dog Collars | P'etiquette

Then they both have a nylon collar and lead from sid&kirs with a buckle on the collar

and a nylon one each with a clip, which are the ones I am replacing.

I'll put their P'etiquette ones on on Sunday if you like?

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

I got Ollie an Xtradog Spiffy Air Collar because its apparently the most comfortable collar in the world, and it dries super quick, which is good when he goes paddling in water. They also come in really nice patterns, and it is secure and has a good clip and a good, solid ring.

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

Ours have flat nylon collars with quick release clips (as opposed to buckles) to wear most of the time, they don't have any bits which could catch on anything (except if the whole collar got caught) and they're suitable for running around and playing in the sea or getting muddy etc and they wear them for daycare too... Ringo's friend Max nearly strangled him by getting hold of the end of the buckle collar and pulling it in a way that made it tighten like a slip lead, I was there and stopped him and all was fine, but it still made me think, and a dog at my training class got her buckle collar caught whilst playing in a forest and it was hard to remove to get her out because it was caught up which pulled the buckle tight making it hard to release, so I feel safer with the clippy collars. I know tons of people who use buckle collars though, with no adverse effects. I also like that I can put the nylon ones in the washing machine - and they come out all clean and new looking.

Ours have a Holly and Lil buckle collar each, they don't wear these if they are going to be unsupervised, or playing with other dogs, like daycare though, because of the none-quick-release thing.

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

Hmmm, now, there are a lot of ideas.

Terence has quite a sturdy neck, so a lot of the p@h collars seem a weird fit. Would a half-check be better then??

And yes, please, I'd love to see the p'ettiquette collars, Nix.

Re: Why did you pick "your" collar??

Jaz has a normal collar with a clip to do it up rather than a buckle type and a ring for the lead and tags. It's nylon, orange with white stars and came from pets@home.
I bought it as she had just been groomed (in p@h), looked beautiful but her collar was old and grotty!
