Another raw thread- help please!

Apologies if this should have been in a diff sect, but I Finally found a butcher who will get me the raw for the dogs- he has told me to take a list down to him tomorrow and he'll call it in for me. But I don't know what to ask for .
River, kuki and kitty get 80g a day and poppet gets 100g.
They have been on chicken for a week now.

What do I order? Just a bit of everything; or are some better to jndtroduce next than others? Kukis not too keen on chomping through big bits- but the others love it!
Thank you!

Re: Another raw thread- help please!

If you are only just starting out then chicken will need to be fed for about 2 weeks to begin with,

chicken backs
wings
carcasses
drumsticks
necks

basically any bit of the chicken that has bone in after the 2 weeks you can start feeding turkey, same cuts as above

2 weeks after that pork

so if you want a 5 week order, get more chicken, 2 weeks of turkey and 2 weeks of pork
for pork I'd get ribs to start with

Re: Another raw thread- help please!

Also you want a 10% bone 10% offal (although not to begin with) 80% raw meat ratio- too much bone can cause toileting issues.

Lots of good advice/stickies in the nutrition bit.

Re: Another raw thread- help please!

Chicken and turkey are nearly the same nutritionally, so I doubt if you'd have any problems with turkey now they've been introduced to chicken. As above, I'd continue for another week, and then swap over to a green tripe and chicken based diet; from there, introduce new proteins one at a time, and leave a gap, just in case you get an upset bum, or tum, so you know what it is. The diet for my three is based on green tripe, chicken and lamb, with some offal and fish, and a couple of other bits. I use chicken carcasses, which come in a variety of shapes, sometimes I get the front end with the breast bone, other times I get the back end which is heavier. Sometimes I get a box of bits all just sliced up, and there are the bits of the leg in there from the knuckle down, and wing tipes, which I tend to mix in with their tripe. My butchers does me the boxes of chicken for £2.50 each, regardless of weight, they sell them on to restaurants usually for them to make stock with, and I know they pay a lot more! Lamb bones for me are free, and green tripe I have to get from elsewhere as the vast majority of butchers don't do this, it's only if they slaughter their own they may have the facilities to let you have a bit of green tripe.

So, for shopping list, for me, it's chicken carcasses, and lamb bones that aren't weight bearing, so ribs, backbone, neck

Re: Another raw thread- help please!

I know exactly how you feel I have pages and pages of food that I could buy lucky, it drives you mad .... Now I just buy her a variation of meat/organs and rotate them

after pork I'd start on fish (sardines/herring/mackeral), then 2 weeks later lamb (ribs/meaty bones, stewing lamb), then 2 weeks after that beef and lastly organs .... not sure when to add in green tripe (if you are planning to)

Sorry if you know all this

Ive read the stickies till I was lie in the face- and confused myself with all the info having a bit of a blonde day
But the diary was Very useful- especially for convincing my gran that raw is the better option for the girls!

Right so, plenty of chicken and some turkey and a bit of pork- then next order include some lamb etc... ?
And pork has to be frozen for a while before thawed and fed? I read that right didn't I?

If you know the pork is from the UK, then it should be fine, it's when it is imported and packaged as if it's from the UK, it could carry a bacteria or parasite, I forget which one, but the risk is minimal.
