Ear Clipping..:( :( I Think thats the term.

Sorry if this sounds naive but some Bullbreeds are not naturally born with ears that looked like they've been clipped.....Are they??

Had a job today for a Staffy x to bath.

This Dog did'nt have the typical wide staffy head but was narrower..

The owner told me that the breeder told him it was a pure bred staffy....The vet reckoned she is crossed with an English Bull Terrier But his mates think she's a cross pitbull.

Lovely Dog full of loves/kisses as soon as I meet her...I noticed her ears straight away and asked what had happened to them It looked like she'd had her ears Cut off down the middle ( No Flaps ) The owner said she was born like that she is now 6 mths old.

He got her from Ireland.....

I don't know I've seen pics of Dogs with ears like this though.....( see pic 13 in the find the pitbull thread )

It really did not look nice at all and I now can't stop thinking about it.

It's called "cropping" - yes they cut the ears so they stand like that. It's probably an "Irish Staffy" - in other words their attempt at a pitbull. I've only ever heard of people doing this for fighting dogs in the UK + ROI though.

I cant thing of any dog breed with naturally cropped ears sounds like they were covering their back or were stupid enough to believe what they were told when they got the dog. I hate the look of cropped ears

The term is "Cropped" - often seen on fighting dogs to make them look more aggressive and leave less places for the opponent dog to bite.

Interesting site that IMHO supports breed owner stereotypes: Ear Crop Information and Care

And do vets do it?

Sorry gosh I remember Back in the Day when being a groomer was all poodles and fluffy little things and now it's Changing so much we have all of these new Breeds and mixes....And new things to learn all the time.

I Can't stop thinking about that Dog now..

Re: Ear Clipping..:( :( I Think thats the term.

It's actually illegal here (although never stopped some people).

Some dogs do look nice with it, I for one do like Dobes with cropped ears BUT that doesn't mean i'd do it just means I like the look.

Staffies and pits, I'm no so keen I tend to like 'em with the floppy ears.

It's a shame because its been done illegally which means the dog has had to suffer at the hands of someone doing a botch job.

Now bear in mind there are breeds whose ears stick up naturally

Like the min pin, which has both up and down ears

and also gets cropped

so sometimes it can be hard to tell, if there is scaring along the ear then it should be a sign of being cropped and being a botch job it'd be easy.

Thanks for the info Though it's sickening to read

The Dog that I bathed today looked like the short or ''Battle crop"" WTF in the Diagram no points whatsoever ......( The Drawing Diagrams on the Froum Thread) OMG pick your ear cropping design

I find it disgusting..... maybe she was crossed with a pitbull then as she looked like the Dog in the heading of that forum on the top left hand side corner.

And he tried to tell me she was born like that.

Re: Ear Clipping..:( :( I Think thats the term.

Cropping of the ears and tails in illegal in Germany.
They changed the law some years ago, you hardly see any dogs now with cropped ears or tails. The Cropping was not always done because of dog fights… early days they use to do it for like hunting dogs, so they would not get there tails or ears ripped of or caught while running after the deer/ boar.

It's also done for the look, many people like it from some that see it as vicious/hard to others that see it as regal or how it should be because that's all they've ever known, it was the same when people who say they won't have rotties or dobies anymore because they looked weird with tails.
