Unhappy Am I In The Wrong?

Just got in from walking the dogs and cant stop crying. We were walking along the pavement when this woman started walking towards us with her black collie cross off lead. The dog was walk quite a bit in front of her and the next thing its trying to fight with my two. Well Candy my wee oldie just grabbed it. I pulled her off and luckly both dog were fine but the woman was going mad at me and the only thing I could think to say was "please put your dog on a lead". I feel awful and cant believe Candy would have grabbed it. She's not a vicious dog but this woman was roaring that she was.

I want to know if I was in the wrong or not because I know that Candy would never have done that if she was off lead too and really the womans dog should have been on lead on the pavement anyways.

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

If her dog was off lead then I feel it is her fault. I don't believe any dog should be off lead on a pavement and certainly it sounds as though she didn't have control.

Have a cuppa and a bit of chocolate to calm down. This was NOT your fault.

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

Completely agree with Ameliarate, the womans dog was off lead & obviously not in her control therefore her fault.

I had an incident last year where my (onlead) dog was attacked by an offlead dog. Apparently though that was also my fault as my dog was alot bigger than the aggressive, offlead dog

Unfortunately some dog owners will always try & push the blame on to the other party for their lack of control

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

You should have told her it is illegal to have an off lead dog on the pavement and pulled out your mobile ready to report her to the police.

Certainly she should never have let her dog near yours in the first place. Sounds like a typical case of she knew she was wrong but the best defence is an offence.

It's like when someone drives into the back of your car and tries to blame you for stopping!

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

If her dog was off lead and your dog was on then its obvious that its her fault, I would have been horrified if my dog had run up to an on lead dog and a fight had started, she might have learnt to keep her dog under control next time.

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

Its just another case of someone knowing they're in the wrong but not wanting to admit it and passing the blame, similar to what I saw in another thread. Its not your fault....as has been said, your dogs were on the lead, her off lead dogs approached yours. She is the one to blame not you! Gawd, I hate hearing stories like this. Makes me mad.

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

Thanks everyone. I just don't want people thinking that my dog is vicious. I did kind of think that she had no right to say the stuff she was saying when her dog was off lead and on the pavement. I see either her or her partner walking this dog very day and they never have a lead. I think I may have had a confrontation with her partner before about them never lifting their dogs muck.

I know that if my dogs are ever off lead and we see another dog on lead I always call them to me and put their leads back on. I would never let them approach an on lead dog whilst off lead.

Re: Am I In The Wrong?

NO! You are not in the wrong.

The other lady is in the wrong, and she probably knew it, so had a go at you before you could have a go at her. It would have upset me as well - but put it down to experience, and next time you see her, you will know to either avoid her or maybe she'll learn a lesson and put her dog on a lead, like it should have been in the first place.

Cheer up, we've all had our bad days with idiots
