Re: Staffies living with other dogs?

I have an entire male staff x am bulldog who lives with my 3 huskies (1 entire bitch, 1 neutered bitch, one neutered dog)

we did have some teething issues introducing him to our pack for the 1st few days, he gets stressed very easily and when he gets stressed he goes straight for the attack. The 1st night they were seperated by crates, the next day I took him to pets at home and got him a muzzle so they could all be loose (heavily supervised)

after an hour or 2 with the muzzle on he settled down and that evening he was muzzle-less but on a lead. By day 3 he was completely free (again heavily supervised)

he's been here a couple of months and now they are left unsupervised if someone is in the house, if we go out he is crated (as are my 2 bitches)

he does have some issues with outside dogs, though we're not sure yet what sets him off as sometimes he is fine! But with my dogs he is fine

Re: Staffies living with other dogs?

Firstly I have to say how gorgeous your foster was

I have had my stafford since a pup and she has been dragged up properly So as a well socialised dog she has had no issue with any of my foster dogs that have stayed, some months at a time (including 3 GSD's and a mongrel pup)

She also adapted well to staying with my then oh's bull terrier 4-6 times a week, Kc kept her in line Also when working dogs came home to stay on occasions she coped well, likewise when we moved into a house with other dogs.

I have now taken on another dog, a stafford from a rescue center They both get on well and have fitted in nicely together Even though the rescue did say he had some dog aggression I assessed him and decided for myself what his issues were, but from first meeting Kc on a walk he lunged at her once, got corrected for it and walked next to her like best friends Hence he came home

However there are literally tons of staffies in rescue that have no health or behavioural issues, I decided due to my circumstances and experience I would take on one with both health and behavioural issues yep I'm

When I am out Buddy stays in his crate as he prefers it and feels secure. Kc has never been crated so all other dogs that I have had/fostered got left loose together.

Now for pic overload! sorry

Kc (fawn) and Buddy (brindle)

Kc and Lady - Kc intergrated fine with a rottie and great dane when we moved in

Buddy and his bestest friend Hoppy

Kc and Roscoe - working dog came home for a holiday!

The plus side if your friend goes for a rescue dog, Pumpkin can choose a friend

StaffsRmisunderstood is on a distinguished road
Re: Staffies living with other dogs?

are u ready for this lol *deep breath* right this really frustrates me .. staffys are always judged! .. just because a staffy was originally bred for the pit doesnt mean that every dog they come across they want to maul.. bentley my blue staffy is an angel with other dogs .. an other dog did not return the favour however,, at 16 weeks old i had to take bentley to the emergency vet and pay 200 pound for vaccines and stitchs to his upper lip as he was attacked viciously by a collie cross type dog twice his size at that time.. ... dont get me wrong some staffs can be very agresive towards other dogs its bred into them isnt it? but please do not judge every staff by the minority... it does not help the staff rep when they are being used by youths as weapons to intimidate due to their appearance and u never hear about the family lab maulin a child do u but as soon as it is a staff its alover the news ... i would advise that if adoptin a staff u ask the sancuary all about the staffs personality and how it deals with dogs in the sancuary (they usualy do behavioural tests) ... theres way to many staffs in sancuarys these days and its wrong! .. if she wants to b on the safe side however she shud get a staff the oposite sex to her own dog and have it neutered as soon as its old enough.. train train train in obediance and do not allow any kind of domineering behaviour.. u need to enforce that the original dog in the home is the dominant 1 so the new staff shud b held so the original dog can smell its behind and laid on its side infront of the other dog.... also id advise there first meetin b on mutual ground such as park orr something not the home ... AND BREATTHHEE LOL ...sorry bout that! x
