Re: Worried about Mia
Thank you all for the support
. I will let you know what the vet says on Monday. The naughty minx is currently on the bed! So happy she managed. She is not usually allowed on at night time because there is not enough room for all 3 of us but when she showed an interest in coming up I didn't have the heart to stop her! The poor OH is curled up in a ball to make room for her . |

Re: Worried about Mia
For anyone wondering, I have rescheduled Mia's appointment for tomorrow instead. She was good over the weekend and back to jumping on the bed and sofa and didn't seem to be suffering any pain. My mind is a lot more at ease now and I don't feel there is anything urgent to worry about... I just think I had a bit of a panic attack
.Our usual vet wasn't available today when I booked the original appointment but I took it anyway because I was really worried and didn't want to wait when I originally booked. It would have meant getting a completely strange vet, possible a man (which she is worse with), having to muzzle her pretty much straight away and probably having to sit through a student vet poking at her first (it is a teaching practice). It would probably have ruined all the good work I have been doing to desensitise her. Seeing as I am happier with how she is now I feel it is better to wait until tomorrow when I can see our regular vet. She is sooo good with Mia. It means I won't have to put up with a student vet and this vet knows how to greet Mia in the waiting room (lots of vets just march straight up to shake your hand or pet the dog!) and take us through without upsetting her. She always has some chicken waiting for her too .I hope none of you think I am being negligent by waiting , I just think I maybe over-reacted and this is better for Mia. |

Re: Worried about Mia
Maybe as you say she runs round like a maniac at day care she has maybe collided with another dog and strained herself. This happened to a friends dog when we were walking in the woods. Her collie and my GSD collided and the collie hurt her ribs. she was put on rest and painkillers and was ok within the week and running round again.

Re: Worried about Mia
So I went to the vet today. Waited an hour to be seen and ended up not getting to see my usual vet anyway
(she was dealing with an emergency). Mia was so good in the waiting room (for an hour!), I can see a huge difference in her . She let the receptionist and a nurse come over, feed her cheese and pet her and she didn't make a peep. She went off and got cuddles from another person waiting to be seen and only had a small woof off when their vet came to see them. It all went to pot when a vet came for me though . Geoff always waits in the car while I take her in as she is calmer and responds better with me. After waiting for an hour though he was desperate for a pee and came in to use the toilet. Mia saw him and went hyper and the vet arrived at that moment so she was really hyped up and barking! A bit unfortunate timing wise. She was fine once I got her into the examination room and muzzled her, although she is a bit difficult to work with as she wont stand and tries to curl up in a ball .The good news is that she doesn't appear to have any neck or spinal pain. The bad news is that her left hip seems to be tender as she didn't like it being fully flexed. Hopefully a week of less intense exercise will sort things out as she already seemed better at the weekend and this week so far. If not she is due another visit and they will investigate further. |
